While conducting a class at a SoCal tow company, they backed a flatbed in and dropped this '40 DeLuxe in the impound yard. The driver of the tow truck said it was a Police call but didn't know why it was picked up.

I know the tow company owners very well and they will keep me posted on what goes on with this car...hopefully it will be up for sale.

Probably the engine code pad on the sbc was beaten with a blunt object.

Seems like a strange thing does it not? Hopefully this gets to its rightful owner and baring that you get first shot. Nice looking car.

Looks like an old sticker...Owners of the duplex probably needed the carport for their Kia, called the tow company and said, "Get this piece of junk outa here!"

hopefully you can snatch it. looks like an awesome car!

realistically though its probably a recovered stolen vehicle which would be great as well

That cars' twin is in a garage not far from me that my dad and I have been "visiting" (trying to buy it) since the early 1980s. It's been in the garage since the late 60s, which was when the owner (still same owner) put new white/black tuck and roll interior in it, and had the fuel pump replaced along with installing dual exhaust. Such a bitchin car it just KILLS me. About 1" of dust on the roof and trunk. One day.....

Oh, hey, back to your car... Good luck with it! Hope you get it! My advice: don't try to buy it too cheap. Make them a solid offer. Go cheap on them and you'll watch someone else buy it!

That's too nice of a car to be an orphan. Someone is going to want it back.

I hate it when that happens. You see it first, get all excited, and the legal system thumbs their nose at you, and then you find out somebody crushed it. Best of luck to you, I hope you can thread the needle and get the car. It looks awesome!

Its funny how that works here...... Somewhere out there the rightful owner might be missing his 40 coupe while the vultures are trying to feed themselves off of it.

Some cop wanted one, so he towed it, told the owner it was stolen. Thats how cops do it. I read it on the internet so its got to be true.

  23. to many parking tickets !

  24. I hope the real owner gets it back. X=wife probably had it towed while he was out of town. Run the serial number and find the owner. Towing companies get help from police to track the owner. Private citizens are not allowed to have the cops trace a car.

Maybe it got impounded for yet another misuse of the term "barn find" I mean seriously at least sprinke some fake dust on the thing...FAIL!

  26. is that an old "black plate" on that car ? pre 70's I think....

  27. just zoomed in on the back plate, license expires July 2014, so currently it is registered, apparently. ...but tag/sticker looks a bit flakey.

  28. ......and the wheels are fallin' off this thread already.
