Great photos and story. The video gives you a good idea of how steep it is, especially on the way back down. Looks like the road has been paved which should improve the times.

    But what about that TeePee?

Photos of Denver area car clubs from the Lou Wendzel collection. Operating out of Cheyenne, WY during the early to late 1950s, Lou was an NHRA Charter Club Member and an NHRA Regional Adviser. ~Buzz Wendzel

OK, I have one of those. I bought it in '65. It was built in the '50s. Take me a while to put it back together. Maybe next year.

That is awesome! Thanks for sharing all that history and photos. Georgetown is a beautiful place, and I've always loved Guanella Pass. Now I have a whole new appreciation for the area.

Damn Mike. I knew that you`d tie into it from the way you talked about it when you first mentioned it but what you`ve put together is amazing! You guys have really done something special for Colorado and hot rod history.

  18. In finally got my hands on some slides that belong to my new friend Coralue in Georgetown. Anxiously waiting for weeks after their discovery, I drove home with them tonight. Genuine Kodachrome slides! Lucky for me I have a slide projector and got a sneek peek.

Much to my surprise , they are from what I believe to be the 1954 'Alpine Trials', the sports car hill climb on the same road. They pulled it off three years 1952-1954. I have results from 1953 too!

Here's the previews! I'll let these tell the story...

Just found this old postcard from my travels to beautiful Georgetown.

  26. Fantastic!!! The scene looks the same, this is the Georgetown Mountain Inn, our Host Hotel. In the Center is the Alpine Inn, one of our original supporters.

    Here in the 1954 program.

Anybody know what is going on with the old schoolhouse in Georgetown? It looks like somebody is fixing it up, but I miss the old Walter 4WD truck that sat there for years.

  30. That event is going to be so bitch'n! Georgetown is a great place! I used to escape to GT (on liberty) from a military hospital in Aurora, where I was incarcerated for being shot up over Laos, back in the 60's. There's a bar there that had a singing bartender. He sang opera, as you sipped your whiskey.

I'd sure like to go sometime (I'm already committed on this year's date)

    Would my car qualify?
