Anyone ever heard of a Freeman dual intake manifold, likely prewar, for a flathead Ford V8? How about Hotton-Sullivan Engineering 24 stud heads? Again, likely prewar.
Those are them. Any info on the manufacture, i.e. east coast, west coast or what year(s) they were sold? I thought they were cool, so I bought a set off an "old timer." Still trying to find out any info I can on the Freeman intake as I bought it as well. Got a bunch of other cool old flathead stuff...
The intake manifold you have is a Freiman not a Freeman. It is a 2 X 2 intake manifold for a Ford flathead that has 2 brass balance tubes between the 2 carburetor mounting bases for even fuel distribution. It was made in Los Angeles CA by the Freiman bros. probably post war. There should be a red metal tag on the front of the intake but in most cases this is most always missing. It has most of the Freiman info on it. The heads you have are Hotton Sullivan. They were made and sold by Don Sullivan and Andy Hotton in Detroit Mich. post war. They had a small speed shop in Detroit for a couple of years and sold these heads from their speed shop. Don Sullivan was one of the engineers that did the prototype work on the Ford flathead engine that made it's debut in 1932 and history was made from there.
Thanks for the info, exactly what I was looking for. The intake is just how you described, missing i.d. tag and all. I haven't seen too many manifolds with brass balance tubes. Do you know if either the intake or heads are considered "rare?"
Just like Alchemy said, the Freiman intake is very rare and the Hotton Sullivan heads are very very rare. The carb spacing on the Freiman intake is far apart so the intake should perform well and the Hotton Sullivan heads will perform good as well. This combination would make a great start to setting up a flathead engine.
Thanks for the info guys. the set-up is going on my 5-window. Along with an original set of Fenton exhaust manifolds.
New to this, have no idea why I'm having trouble up loading my photos... I can't even set up an avatar with a pic from my computer....
