I believe you are correct. With a stock, flat tappet cam, the old HT-817 tappet used in small blocks, big blocks, 250-sixes were used in chevy IIs. The 153 never came with a roller. The only stock rollers were in later model 151 (2.5L) which seem similar but in reality the only thing the same are the letters "GM" cast in the block. 151 roller lifters aren't interchangable.

I suppose the early small block roller will fit in the hole. Don't know what device you would use to keep it from rotating because I think the spacing is different.

    Well that's confused me now
    Do we have a 153 or a 151
We are doing this from a pile of parts
Any tips on how to identify ??

You have to use roller lifters specific for that engine or the Chevy 250/292 inline 6 engine family. Roller lifters for a SBC will not work.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread but since other knowledgeable Hambers have responded, first of all let me add that the 2.5 (Iron Duke variant) parts should be easy to find. It was the four banger installed in the S10 pickup. My question is: Will the distributor from the earlier 153 engine fit the later 151 (2.5)? All the S10s I've run across have computerized electronic ignitions, and fuel injection. The later is fixable, to me. But, finding a distributor seems to be a killer. Any ideas?

Nice ride. Looks like fun. I hung out with a sprint car builder/racer in Memphis, Tennessee when I was a kid. Dirt tracks are primal. When wings came along, I lost interest. Yours doesn't seem to own one either. Is that what we call a midget class, here?

I have a set of 8 roller rockers for a sbc with only 3 ty-bars(dog bones) if you want them just send me the money for shipping and your address and I'll send them to you. I have a soft spot for those 4 cyl. It's in there somewhere:cool:

  17. Instead of a local store have you tried going direct to the manufacturer (such as Isky) for a couple of roller rockers?

Staying within the original question, here you go..........

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cro-66206-8/applications/?prefilter=1

Now call Summit and see if they carry 66206-2 or will sell just a pair as there web sight does not show them but it does say to call for special order's.

BTW, what brad do you have now? Other brands are sold in 1 pair only.

Do you mean roller rockers or lifter. SBC rockers wont work on the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinders either, wrong ratio and wrong geometry. SBC roller lifters wont work in these engines either, the lifter bore spacing on the SBC lifters is way too short to fit the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder engines correctly and the lifter bodies are too short. Valvetrain failure is very likely when trying to interchange the SBC components on these 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines.

Saw two old quarter midgets at Alma car show this weekend. Both had 153s in them.
