It ended up that this is the only pictures of the frame mock up I have at the moment. Reason being, I have a good friend that is really good with sheet metal and patch panels. He owns his own shop and he calls and lets me know that he has time and room for my cab and frame. I got the frame rolling asap so I could get it to his shop to start putting the cab back together. Sorry for the picture skipping but as soon as the cab is back together I will be back on the frame. Heres what is going on now. I took it to my buds house to actually learn the ins and outs of the sheetmetal deal. I can learn alot since he has alot of knowledge and alot more tools than I. My good set of doors are pictured. The cab isnt totally welded back up since I had to take the hinges for the doors to work. Thety were sloppy and needed a bit of TLC. Ive heard this is normal. No big deal since I have machinist buddys at work. What I wouldnt do to have all the machining tools I need, especially a mill and lathe.
My 32 sedan has fatigue cracks similar to those, but not so bad. Like you said, the poor quality of the rural roads in that era caused the problems, twisting and literally tearing the bodies apart. Nice to see progress being made. Mart.
Well hambers, I am excited abouty project again. A friend of mine help me get my can back together in the proper ways. I didn't realize how much work it was going to be to get it back together square and proper. The hinges were one of my biggest concerns. After making new pieces for the hinge pins and welding up the holes and remapping they fit pretty good. All patch panels are in and time for some body work. It's definitely solid now. If I didn't have friends that knew the "tricks of the trade", I would have never got this far. Now it's time to finish the suspension And mock up the motor. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad

Once again I'm having phone issues. Pictures are small so I will try again. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Cool to see an update on this one. Looks like things are coming together nicely. You are a good man for acknowledging your friends help.
Subscribed. Keep at it. Looking good so far. What are your plans for a bed? Edit: Guess I missed your post #10 about the bed. duh
Well, It is a 34 frame. With the glare it does have a look of being a 32 frame. The issue of the clearance is that Im going to set the motor and trans, make the trans mount and see how I can fabricate a mount for the radius rods. My understanding is that the end of the radius rods need to be close to the mounting point of the front u-joint. An exact plan I do not have but Im hoping it will become a bit more clear after the motor and trans are set. The radius rods will probably have to be shortened slightly. Do you have any recomendations on this cadillacoffin?
I am NO expert on anything by any means. I do and will need help on many things. The hamb and friends seems to be the best place to get this. Where would we be without hotrodder friends?
It's looking great. Can't you simply notch the crossmember tubes to gain the necessary clearances for the rods?
Notching the cross member is an option. I have thought on this and I may have an idea that will look ok. I hate to cut up a new frame but that may be what it takes.
nothing wrong with slow and steady. I bought mine back about 4 years ago and I'm just now approaching having a rolling chassis (mocked up, not finish welded yet) and I haven't updated the build page since May. I figure it may well take 10 years to do this one on my limited budget, but I'm patient. here's mine. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=460730 FWIW I'm using chev fenders too on the rear-- 31's I believe--they were what my dad ran on the truck when he built it in the 70's--worked great--swap meet score too. adding this to my subscription list.
i apologize i should have looked closer at the frame, i just assumed it was a 32 frame. you may not need to do anything... here is some ways the 32 issue have been solved http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=497401 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25304
Hey falconsprint63, I have actually changed plans on the rear fenders. I actually bought a nice set of steel 34 ford pickup fenders. Now I have a nice set of 34 Chevy pickup fenders for sale. Anyone interested? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Cadillacoffin that is some snazzy fab work right there. Do you have a picture of the outside of the frame rail with the friction shock? I like that idea. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300262 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=410586&page=6 On my 32 truck i heated the forgings and bent them slightly inward similar to what thrunderbirdesq did above by cutting and welding. Here's the pictures of the storage behind the seat. It serves as two purposes, storage and to stiffen up the back lower section of the cab Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Well, I had just a couple of hours today after work to go to the shop and piddle a bit. Since I didn't have a lot of time I decided to dee how the front fenders were going to fit. I quickly found out that they are gonna need some tweaking along with fixing the front of each and hammer and dolly work..... Argh! No body said hot ridding was easy. This weekend I found some time to get a little done. First off Saturday my dad and I got they flathead and t5 seat in place. I gotta get a bit of steel to fab the transmission mount, more on that later. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
After finding out I needed to study on the best way to fab my transmission mount I decided to change gears. Back a while ago( with help of the jamb) I decided on putting a 34 Chevy dash in the pickup. It fit ok but going to have to do some surgery but it will be fairly minor. Gotta turn the corners down, add about 1/2 " across the top, and add just a tad to the ends to finish it off. More to come on this also. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
My cab was missing the original cab feet at the bottom of the firewall. I just ended up making my own out of 1 1/2" tubing and a small piece of flat bar. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
