Hey guys, I am new to this forum. Well actually I have been reading info from this site for years. This is my first post though. I have been a little reluctant as although I am a hard core motor head my current project isn't what you would call a hot rod. I am building a replica 1954 Mercedes Gullwing. My motor of choice is a 1957 345 in Desoto Hemi. So perhaps this is not in keeping with most of the projects on this site but I could use your help so I thought I would ask.

I am modifying the hemi by converting it to fuel injection. I am originally from NY so I know cheap gas but here in New Zealand gas is $8.00 a gallon. So my goal is 345 cubic inch/ 345 horsepower. I have cast four
manifolds to put 4 two-barrel Webers on top. I have them gutted and a Bosche injector hidden. My challenge is that I am looking for a cam angle sensor I can drop in instead of the distributor. I know Ford made such a unit for their small block. I may try to modify theirs. Does anyone know if there was ever such a unit made for the 318-360 LA motor?

What is a pommie? ChaCha Answer: It is used as a disparaging term for a British person, learn something new every day....

  13. Tell the Europeans that their modified cars ar not hot rods.
This a GLOBAL site with members from all corners of the world.
Do you seriously think that every hot rod has to be of American origin?

  14. THere are unibody cars in the USA that are idolized as Hot Rod/custom car material.
T'birds and corvettes are sports cars and also quoted on this site as hot rods.

    Are members here wrong?

    Surely not. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I say YES ....a modified car is not necessarily a HOT ROD .and a corvette with mag wheels has no place on the H.A.M.B... my opinion

  16. Who mentioned mag wheels??

I have seen many '56'57'58 covettes here and they fit in very well.
Who's to say the Gullwing is not as fitting?
It's the euro equivelant of the corvette/tbird...
As I said, this is a global site that caters for those tastes from other countries. :D

Greetings Greg from the west coast of Florida.

Plenty of room for one more Car Crazy person.

    Best Regards Jimbo

  19. You have a knack for adding unsaid words (like the mag wheel comment.
    Now you add Traditional.
Not a word I have mentioned in this thread.

Just looking at it from a European point of view.
As I said before, this site is Global so think global not local.

Bledisloe Cup to the Kiwi guys again.. lol

ps You call your escort a hot rod? .. lol

my wife told me to ''play nice'' so PLEASE read the sticky at the top of screen...H.A.M.B = traditional hot rod site!Earl Bruce's Von Dutch painted gullwing was nice , as was jimmy d's ,but a flash sports car aint a hot rod-traditional or not . and, according to your reasoning my ford escort is as much a hot rod as a vette-sports oriented car with a cult following:p

  21. If you removed every thread that contained "non Traditional" stuff,
there would be practically nothing left here. That is the reality.
So this gullwing deserves a space here just as hundreds of
other foreign (to USA) cars have a space on this site.

    Cheers. :D:D

Okay guys I expected a little criticism. I had read the sticky note and was aware that my project is not traditional hot rod stuff. However I respect you guys for all that you know about old school hemis so I thought I might ask for some help.
So just assume that this car is a 1954 Victress SA1 coupe with a 345 inch hemi from a Desoto Adventurer. The frame is round tube space frame not unibody. Ford Mustang II front suspension just like many of your project and a IRS from a T-bird supercoupe (not a Jag). Does that make it a little less offensive?

Greetings and welcome. Please post an image or two. I own a Victress C3 coupe, also Hemi powered.
The Victress S-1A is a roadster body. Do you have a roadster with a detachable top, or is it an actual coupe? Would love to correspond with you, it seems we may be going down the same road. Cheers!
    Rod in San Diego.
