    Great stab at his goal man, it will be there when ya get back. The extra effort to maintain the y-block will be worth every effort, as I am sure you are aware. I just did a swap in my chevy p.u. and it was easier with a s.b.c., but it is goin in a chevy where they belong. Enjoy Joplin bro, another year of missing the fun for me, busted flat in Baton Rouge. But will live thru the pix hopefully shot there. Rock on kids. ~sololobo~

    Good luck, took me 14 hours to cover an 8 hour trip yesterday and just got home. Mechanicals on I80 would rank at the top of my list of things that suck!

    one thing I can tell you about a 312 in a 54, did mine in 56 and then 11 overdrive transmissions and 8 4.11 rears. those 312's are strong, 54 drive line......not so much

    My 54 has a 57 9 inch rear. A little stouter than stock.

    A word of caution when you get back on the 312, the 239 dizzy has the wrong number of teeth to fit anything other than a 239. You really want a dizzy from a 57 or newer engine for vacuum and mechanical advance. Good luck!
