    Looking at a car for sale, cruiser w/ small block350 & 350
    trany.
Don't know much about these , does this statement seem right to you folks?
    -turbo 350
One should remember that the TH 350 was designed for lower torque applications, and as such has some weak points when compared to the TH 400. The first weak point is excessive end-play between the pump and center support and use of a relatively narrow bushing in the drum, both of which can result in wobble of the direct clutch drum. This weak point can be addressed by using an extra thrust washer between the planetary gear and direct clutch by and using a wider aftermarket bushing in the direct clutch drum. Another weak point is the relatively thin center support and the lightweight matching splines in the case. This weakness can be addressed by using an inexpensive aftermarket case saver kit.
Fixing these two issues will result in a TH 350 that is nearly as durable and reliable as a TH 400.
If I get it It wont get beat too bad.

A properly assembled Turbo 350 will have no issues under 400 ft pounds and normal use. It can be built to take more and be very durable. A TH400 i a great transmission but with today's components the TH350 can be a lighter alternative.

    I wouldn't want a TH400 behind a V6 Le Regal or a TH350 in a 455 Estate wagon with a Class 3 hitch. Horses for courses.

If all that was in the ad, the guy sure covered his butt. I'd almost be afraid something was wrong with it.

    Hey guys
I got that quote from a web site,( wild about cars.com) when I looked for the diff between 350 and 400 trany's.
Couldn't find the right comparison here.
I'm an old FNG looking for a driver work on project.

I have built over 200 TH 350's. They are excellent transmissions.

Every trans has its weak points. 350s are great transmissions it sounds like his has problems.

Man, I had an A-1 Turbo 400 with a manual reverse valve body and I couldn't give it away. Everybody wanted a 350th. Finally a guy with a suburban took it off my hands. Funny, he didn't want the 5000 stall converter. LOL

Well if your putting tranny against tranny. There are other models that make the 400 look weak...

The question is what are you putting the tranny in? or what it in?

You don't need a nuclear power plant behind your camper to charge the batteries....

The 400 also takes more HP to operate it....

SO I am wondering, What are you putting the tranny in? or whats it in??? As far as I am concerned, using the fact that the car has a 350 instead of a 400 is not a leverage point for negotiating.

I've had numerous 350TH transmissions and never had a problem. I consider them almost bullet proof.
