I can see similarities with this 1913 Buick delivery truck.

I thought Buick or Cadillac at first, but the frame is to thin and drops off to sharp at the front.

Well fellas I have no idea why it loaded sideways. I am using the Mobil app. I like all of your suggestions. Maybe someone can contact Jay Leno he probably owns one j/k. I don't think it's a converted truck. I believe it's a racer of some sort. I do know they had plenty of money(wish some was left). I believe this was taken in Alabama. Other pictures in the same album are from WWI.

Here is another one of their cars during a camping trip. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1376251640.099659.jpg

  6. This last one, on the camping trip, is a 1913 Marmon - like this one - http://www.barthworks.com/cars/cussler/1913marmon32.htm - although the mystery car has gas side lights. It might be from the changeover from 1912 to 1913. It is hard to tell from this angle whether it is the four cylinder Model 32 or the six cylinder Model 48.

I think the earlier car might also be a Marmon - either 1909 or 1910. Probably did not start life as a speedster though.

  7. The early car looks to be a modified Marmon, to me. The grille and the front axle are what I'm using as ID points. Neat car!

What is going to make it harder is there is no telling what the grill, lights or anything lse was on originally. You know hot rodders.... doin' their own thang. This appears to me something that someone built to look like a racer, or raced it at a local track. The horn still being on the side is one hint of that, but I don't think those headlights were all too legal... no lens in them.... and not found on a lot of race cars back then.

I thought both to be very interesting. The camping one I have tons of pics of the family driving it around the country in their Sunday best. Eating fruit on the side of the road, hunting dogs holding pheasants etc.

The first photo is around 1914-1918 during ww1. I don't think they did lots of trick set ups then. The family was well off so I am guessing money wasn't an issue.

The headlights on the speedster are unique and should help ID it if they are from the original car, I've seen those smoke bonnets on something, just can't remember what. The Marmon on the camping trip would be a great car to have today. Thanks for posting the photos. Bob

It looks like an Overland about 1912 or 1913

I agree on Overland but would put it at a 1908 Model 24.

The picture at post 18 is the same as post 33, only it is reversed and enlarged. Interesting looking car.

Kissels had a different shaped radiator and badging off centered on radiator. I think we are close though.

I think it's a 4 cylinder Alco, drop in front axle, solid hood sides, maybe the same headlights.

I can't post the pic, but Google Joel Naive Alco

  20. I spent about an hour this morning trying to ID this. I looked at Maxwell, Paige, White, Moon...the list goes on. I think I have to agree with it being an Overland.

1908 Overland did not have as large a dip in the axle, and the top of the radiator was not as round. It's later than that.

I suggested way back in post 23 that it was an Overland. Click on the link on that post and look at the shape of the radiator all the way around, the dip in the front axle, and the crossmember holding the radiator.

Looks like a Mercedes Benz, but I guess a lot of people where copying Daimler-Benz back then. They did invent the automobile after all.

But I think it's a Locomobile. No you're right (above) it's an Overland round 08-10. The give away features are the shape of the front spring hangers, the shape of the lower grill shell and the crossmember to support the starting handle.

I think the camper in the picture is an early airstream.

Camping trip car has right-hand drive; the 1913 in your link has left-hand drive. Camping trip car has beads around the fenders, the 1913 in the link does not.

Could the camping trip car be a 1912 instead of a 1913? I googled both and the images I found showed right-hand drive and headlights like the camping trip car for 1912 models, and left-hand drive and the newer style headlights for 1913 models

Identify this car's history and owners

Recently bought a 1927 Model T Speedster, Ruckstell, oil pressurized, Edmunds and John headlights, Dual Solex pic 28 VW carburetors, Canadian Engine, custom tandem trailer. Seems very well done, but zero paperwork to explain what other mods? 1-05.jpg
