Better start looking in Germany, older Opels are kind of rare in the states and its a neat looking car.

What a beautiful car, and rare too. Don't think I have ever seen one, even a picture. It looks to be in showroom condition too.

Have you tried your local Opel dealer and auto parts stores? I know on this side of the pond you can get parts for very old cars, through the regular dealers and parts stores.

Call them, I think you will find pretty much everyone in the retail market in Germany can and will speak German.

  7. Thats for sure. :D, :D,

  8. Duh!! HE doesn't speak German

  9. Oops! Sorry, I just read that you don't speak German. I should have paid closer attention.

  10. Forget looking in Canada for parts. Don't think they were imported here unless some serviceman brought one back.

I have only seen a couple late 50s Opel Rekords here in my area and they had been sitting many years, you might want to check with the Aussies as one of their Holdens looks like a rebadged Opel Rekord to me.

  12. Old Holdens and old Opels are completely different. Your best bet for parts besides Germany ( where they speak German :D) will be Denmark and Netherlands , you will have more luck with your English in the last two countries. Shipping from here to the UK is also cheaper than from the UK to here. So what do you need ???

Factory only made fourdoors as far as I know, looks pretty good though... Post some more pics, how the conversion was done, etc.

These cars never came to the UK so i'd stick to searching France, Germany, Netherlands and the like for info and parts. Find an owners club and go from there.

    Nice car BTW.

If you aren't in a hurry you could try writing a letter on paper and mailing it with a stamp.

Retro, I know, but it is a retro car.

Kapitän P2s were the most populous generation; according to Wikipedia 145618 were made from 1959 to 1963. Coachbuilders Autenrieth made P1 and P2 coupés, in what numbers I do not know. I'd expect that they'd be quite rare.

rekord60, do you have a coupé? If so, is it complete as regards the coachbuilt bits, e.g. trim bits, panels, etc. unique to the coupé? If not, I don't think an Opel parts specialist would be much help! If not, be prepared to have the missing or damaged pieces remade. Your life might be much easier if you have a 4-door.

A very cursory search turns up this website: http://www.opel-classic-parts.com/ Their website gives a choice of English, German, and Dutch, so presumably they'll have people who speak those three languages.

  20. There's one here, a rusty wagon. The old boy sells parts too. I'd say there may be some stuff still on it. Only one I've seen.
That's one clean, cool car you have.

You might update your profile. Where it says "Location: UK" made me think you live in the United Kingdom.

See, there's the simple answer, but we had to wade through 17 posts to get it. Few people think in simple terms any more. Makes me nuts.

Those were sold in the USA, but hardly any have survived, anyone who owns one is likely getting parts from Europe.

Canada got Vauxhalls. Those Opels share nothing with Vauxhalls or Holdens.

Your best bet is to look in central and southern Western Europe for partsm specifically Germany. Also watch ebay.de

I don't believe that Opels were imported into Australia prior to 2012. They stopped in 2013 as no-one wanted to buy them. They may have been junk?
