I guess that's one way of keeping the front wheels on the ground. That would be scary ride.

I thought that pic was in the Hot Rod Deluxe special issue that was 100% pics and no adds. SCARY looking ride that's for sure!!!

  8. We had a thread on that one, look into Ryan's Journal entries, I think he might have discussed it.

Drivers name is red case. Fairly certain that car killed him

There was a thread on this car here some time ago. For the life of me I can't remember the details. I believe the driver was killed in a racing crash but not in that car. I love that car. But I have a penchant for things like that.

Perhaps it was one run and done...

I bet he had to sling his balls over his right shoulder because the gas tank was in the way.

As others noted, Eugene (Red) Case built and drove the car, raced in on the west coast and also towed to Texas in 1958, along with Jack Ewell and Romeo Palimedes to race Garlits (Garlits won). The top picture is taken there. There are conflicting stories about which car Red died in...Don Ewald's site states that he died at Vaca Valley in a conventional slingshot, went off the track and hit a hay rake at the end, while Drag Racing Deaths states that he died in the rear-engined car. No, it was not the safest car built!
