What kind of sound system do you have in your horseless carriages?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56PontiacPiano, Jul 30, 2013.

  1. What types of sound systems do you have? Stock? Custom? A wind up phonograph that you drive around with? Under dash record player, Cd Player, 8 track? Chime in!
Me, I'm keeping it stock. Currently restoring my single speaker Chieftain radio, a 1955 radio with a 1956 power supply/speaker. Gonna build a good quality small AM transmitter so I can play my ipod through the original system, while still being able to listen to the couple of music stations as well as the news and talk show stations on AM.

an alpine cd player hidden in the glove box, some tweeters hidden behind the stock speaker grill and some infiniti speakers hidden under/behind the dash. A packaging nightmare but at least you can't see any of it. I hardly ever listen to it but I listen to the radio on my stock 1989 tape deck in my daily all of the time. Go figure.

Mine had 1200 watt system in it when I got it. I pulled it all out. When I am cruising in my ride, I would rather listen to the car for any telltale noise warning of a potential issue.

My 55 chev still has the pioneer supertuner fm/8track on the floor that I put in around 77/78 and has the stock am radio in the dash just to fill the hole

I have 11 antique cars. The radio works in three of them. (when I bother to turn them on) The 65 Mustang convertible has a Beach Boys tape in it, (Surfing Safari), I play that one real loud!

  14. We don't need no stinkin' radio, couldn't hear it anyway.

There is no need for a radio in a hot rod. None.

Tuner and amp under the seat with USB port. Marine remote on a hinge under the dash. The wiring was done before the interior and the speakers were put in by the interior shop behind the headliner and rear panel so nothing shows except the antennae.

  26. Granted,,running & driving car was much more important to me when I was a 16 year old. HRP

  27. Restoring a radio is as simple as taking a solering iron, removing the old components, put the new ones in and bam done.
Checking for a spark is different, maybe because it's a car engine compared to a little radio? I've never worked on an engine before and I worry that I'll hurt myself and or break something. So, shush with that.
