Event Coverage The rained out 2012 Bonneville Raffle and HAMB BBQ Now a 2013 EVENT!~

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Dec 5, 2012.

  1. Many of you know about, the raffle a couple of us put together as a fundraiser. We planned on doing the BBQ and then selling raffle tickets for quite a few (75+) items that were donated. Lots of artwork, posters, carparts, team tshirts. ALL the proceeds were going to be handed off to Dallas Volk at the Save the Salt trailer during Speedweek. HAMBers giving back if you will.

Well, many of you know the sky opened up and we got rained out. I didn't have a backup plan that would do justice and Mac and I ran out of ideas. I kept the goodies packed up thinking we could do it here online but that became impossible due to several logistic problems and the tax man/Paypal. Ryan, thanks for trying to burn some brain cells and come up with a solution.

After talking/pm'ing it over I decided to pack the goodies up and try again next year. I think we have a better plan put together. Working on a new venue so we are not slaves to the weather at the Bend in the road.

Thanks to all who donated food, beverage and things to raffle. I have had a couple PMs asking what happened so I thought it was about time to write this note (was waiting until after Elmo was done)

Plan on Speedweek 2013, we already talked about another BBQ at our pits, we had to throw one together to use up all the food we bought! DOH! It will come soon, only 246 days out!

  2. Sorry ya got rained out..glad to hear it'll happen next year.

  3. Thanks Rock, plan on spending more that 30 seconds with us next year!

  4. I was disappointed that I wasn't going to be there in time for the auction. We arrived Sunday morning. Hopefully, work schedule in 2013 will allow us to get there for the weekend as well.

  5. Tman, You should have the auction at the Stateline casino.(Sunday night) I'm sure they would have a banquet room you could hold it in. Tell them what it's for and a make up a sandwich board to set up in the parking lot on Friday and Sat night so people know about. This gives you all year to gather more stuff to auction off. Just a thought. I wanted to make it to the auction this last year but that rain squall kinda ruined it for me coming into Wendover. You might think about a personality to be the auctioneer as well to drum up some enthusiasm.

Hope it happends next year, as this is a very important committee

  8. That's one option we thought about. The KOA would be good as well since many of us stay there and they already host the inliners and Bean Bandits.

  9. Maybe look into piggybacking your auction off of the salt talk, that seems to draw a crowd of folks interested in preserving the event . Might draw a little more interest.

We were planning to be in town Thursday evening so we could good H.A.M.B.ers and make the Friday afternoon H.A.M.B. BBQ and raffle. Sadly setbacks and a breakdown or two put a hamper on that....and we didn't make Wendover until 2:00 am Saturday morning.

Met allot of H.A.M.B.ers and stopped by the tent and signed the banner....just sorry we all missed out on the BBQ.

Hopefully it will still be happening the next time we bring the T's to Bonneville.

  11. If you can please make it for Saturday or Sunday. We dont even leave our house until Friday afternoon up in Washington State. I would love a shot a winning some cool stuff.

Glad to see this post Trent! I still have a few hot dogs left over from the BBQ that I'm saving for next year. Should we eat them or auction them off?

If you need me to make a couple phone calls to line up a spot let me know. So many options; have it on the salt? Have it at a hotel? KOA? Friday? Sat? Sun? on and on and on... Given all the grief we got from the park service, we should probably rule out the bend in the road. I like the KOA idea. Then again, weather is always a little unpredictable out there so an indoor venue would be safe.

Either way, I'm in again this year, and I can bring my midget chef with me. Looking forward to it already!

  13. Mac, I am proud to call you a friend! You and your kid are tops!!!!!!!!!!!! He is one hell of a BBQ pitmaster! Lets talk and get this rolling for next year. Lots of good ideas but you are local and I will defer to you.

My only stake in this thing is to walk up to Dallas at the Save the Salt trailer with a pimps roll of bills!!!!!!!!! PM me, I will call and we can start working on it. Trent

  14. Just got a secure call from Agent 41, we have an operative inside Wendover City Limits with boots on the ground laying the groundwork for the 2013 BBQ/Raffle. We will announce the location when the time is right and force our enemies into the sea!

OR, I will have more details later. Trent ;)

  16. I love it when a plan comes together.....

  17. OK, plans are made, the BBQ will be the first Saturday of Speedweek at the new Museum site. Thanks to Mayor Mike from CARQUEST to let us squat and use his place. It will be late afternoonish. Bigmacs kid Landon will be minding the grill as our executive Chef and we will have some killer dogs/brats. He killed it last year.

All of last years goodies will be raffled and the proceeds will go to Save the Salt. I believe we have 75+ raffle items. I will have to re-inventory it all since it has been stored in my office alcove since last years rain out.

I'll shoot some pics and do an inventory so folks know what will be up for grabs. Thanks, Trent

We need to get everyone out there to come by and purchase a raffle ticket or two. We have two simple goals with this BBQ:

1- hand over lots of cash to the Save the Salt folks.
    2- have a great time

It's a good cause fellas. Come help it to be a success.

A HAMB sponsered fundraiser for Save The Salt, during Speed Week, and some yayhoos have voted this thread 2 stars? You 2-star-voting dipshits need to resign your HAMB membership.

    Good on ya Trent!

    Sounds excellent Trent !

How about a few more details ? Is the museum site beside Carquest and times for the famous cooking ?

  22. The museum site is kitty corner across the street from the carquest. It will be on your right before the large rock formation. Mayor Mike graded 5 more acres on top of what was there last year. I plan on having the grill going around 5ish.

Jerry, you didn't finish one of your hot dogs from last year so I saved it. It's in my cooler. I'll put it on the grill for ya buddy!

*** Look for the HAMB banner or my yellow pontiac wagon. If you see either, you're in the right spot. ***
