Bubbas dizzy is spot on perfect. It's not the dizzy. It runs A1 perfect with the adapter... With The stock coil mounted on there, it won't even barely fire.. I called skip who rebuilt the coil and he wants me to try a few things and and see how it goes

Fixed..... Two things... The resistor I had in line was acting up... It was supplying good voltage then it would just fall off the face of the earth. Switched it out and installed the condenser a little differently as me and skip discussed this morning. Fired right up and laid a black mark leaving my driveway . Runs good .. Phew.. Thanks for the help guys.

We took the model a to a show at a local body shop, Godfrey auto body , today. It rained all morning and the show started at 3:00. Ended up raining about two hours into the show. It was a good time. Lots of nice cars. Seen lots of familiar faces there. Nice thing is I did get trophy for popularity of the model a... A lot of guys loves the blower, and the fact my car isn't all shiney... I was extremely happy with all the compliments. We waited out the rain till about. 7:00 .. it never let up, so we hit the road headed for home.. It was pouring ... The model a did very well. A little rain ex goes a long way also! I was expecting an engine miss from all the water.. But it pulled right along at 60 mph no problem... It seems once my cooker firestones warm up a little my car drives like a new one.. I'm super happy with it.. Here is a few pics of today just a couple that got my attention .. There were many more nice cars and trucks there

Looks like a cool show and a NEAT trophy. Gives me an idea for our club's show. Congrats.

  7. congrats on the trophy. Rain seems to be the cool thing this summer. soooo annoying.

  8. The old Fords are positive ground. Electrons run from negative to positive. The old Ford coils are designed for positive ground and they do not work good on reverse polarity. The spark is generated in the little windings instead of the large windings when they are reversed. I am not an expert but people with Model "A" often hook the coil up backwards and run the negative post on the coil to the frame (or points )when running a positive ground system. The spark is kind of weak.

I was wondering if you were running positive or negative ground.

    i run the positive ground.
a coil in an early flathead only has one post..... it can only be hooked up one way..... what happend was my condesnser was a dead short. junk! it was killing the dizzy of power.. so a new one from jim at bubbas fixed it right up.. i can see where they may hook up a standard 2 post coil backwards. that happends alot. and there is most certainly 2 different ways for hooking one up for 6v and 12v. however a 12v and 6v coil are identicle inside. the only difference is the ammount of resistance inside the coil on an "internaly resisted" coil... if you go with on that is not, there is absoultly no difference between the 6v and 12v other than how you hook it up.

I sent the generator out for rebuild today... It was in alot better shape the. I figured. Some minor issues. it will be back by weds. I need to finish wiring the car and get ready for Erie this weekend. I drove it about 110 miles round trip Sunday to a show... Ran top notch other than the bad gas I got....
Rear main seal is leaking pretty good... I guess that's what I get for not replacing it... Hope it holds up for the weekend then I can replace it after that, no biggy.

I received my generator back today... All rebuilt . Installed that, and built a new wiring harness for the entire car. We now have a working 6v system. Lights work good and it charges great with the factory original amp gauge still ..
It's ready for the big trip to erie tomorrow ... Little over 70 miles for me one way. I'm excited .we will be traveling further and further as I gain trust in the car .. It will be a great trip. Looking. Forward to seeing how the car does.. Even my wife is stoked..

We left the house today at 10:00 am.. Took us about an hour and forty-five mins to get to the show .. We took the scenic route. The car preformed very well. We just got onto route 5 in erie and I hit a pot hole the size of Texas. All I herd was crash..... My passenger side headlight lense smashed off the road into a million pieces . Luckily the trim ring was not hurt... So after a few mins of bitching up a storm, I continued on my journey.. After about half an hour of cruising the Lake Erie coast line we were close to the show... A few back roads and we were there. It was a private event.. About 60 cars total. Some real amazing machines were there.. Mine was pretty much the ugly duckling .. But to me, it's perfect. I had a crowd around it several times.. Alot of good comments . Someday I will paint the car... But for right now, its done. I wanna drive it before I make it too nice... It's mechanically sound and its solid... Fancy paint will come in time. After a few hours of walking around, eating and enjoying the conversations. We decided to head home... On the way home I did run into a little trouble. My throttle was very very stiff... It seems something so binding the cable up inside. It's not frayed, but its pulling it at a bad angle. So I fought with that all the way home... We made several stops just taking our time.. Stopped for some nice beach front views.
All in all it was a good day. We drove about 200 miles total for the day. I have to get my throttle straightened out for tomorrows show over in warren ohio. Here is a few pics from the trip and the show...

Ya know, sometimes the "ugly ducklings" get more attention at the shows like this than the high buck trailer queens. At least around here in the Northwest. I think they are considered real deals, the owner's own handy work. The headlight is a Model A thing. Good show!

  17. congrats on the journey. sux about the headlight, but hey that is PA roads for you. People out west or down south have no idea what we gotta roll through. Whoooo cares about paint, I mean I like it but you don't need paint to drive. You need air fuel and spark and maybe some brakes. Your car has character and you built it, didn't farm everything out like most "builders". Going to shows is a catch 22, pos feedback is great, but you'll always get someone spouting out this or that, so annoying especially about paint. bottom line is you got a true hotrod and not many folks have or build one these days, seems like its an underground movement. Your the minority now, even though your style of hotrod paved the way for what we all enjoy now. but people seem to forget roots and preservation of raw real deal truth.

Today we went to metal eds hot rod BBQ......
All I have to say is, this was the best damn show I have been to all year! These guys are plain and simply the coolest group of hot rod enthusiasts I have ever met... There were sooo many cool hot rods and great food, tattoo girls and fantastic music.. All and all it was a blast! I got to see some hamb members cars...they also had a nice display of motorcycles. We arrived about one o'clock today and the place was filling up fast! We sat around and ate and shot the shit for a while. Then the burn outs started .. I still have no idea how the hell the cops didnt show up!! Here is a few pictures from the day and the trip over... Below I will attach some YouTube links for some bad ass burn outs
