Another awesome edition of the Meltdown, which by my estimate had 400-500 cars competing at the best little nuclear site dragstrip in Illinois. I took too many photos to post on the HAMB, you can browse a Flickr set here or a Flickr slide show here. A little sample for ya:
Killer pictures Mike! I'm so glad we ran into each other. It's always great seeing you, we don't get to hang out enough! Check out me and Joeys thread about the weekend. Theres a good pic of us. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=817938
Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. My buddy wanted us to go. He even offered to pay my way. I really wanted to, but too many other obligations right now. Actually good that I didn't. My wife's truck broke down, and I spent the weekend fixing that. Maybe next year. I'm somewhat dismayed by the small number of spectators. I'll bet there were more participants than spectators. Used to be a time when the grandstands would be full.
This year there was a little more than 10 times as many spectators as participants. Byron's grandstands have lots of room and don't forget many spectators were in the pits checking out the vintage race cars. We would love to fill the stands like back in the day, but unfortunately the general public just doesn't have that kind of interest in this stuff anymore. You for example were not in the stands due to other priorities.
10 times. If there were 500 cars, then there must've been over 5,000 spectators. That's great. Glad to hear that there were a lot more spectators than I see in the pics. I was hoping that was the case. Yeah, I think I made it clear that it wouldn't have been wise (or even right) for me to go, what with all that I have to focus on here. You have no idea. But it sure wasn't due to a lack of interest. Thanks again Mike for the pics and allowing me to have a good look.
