What is the safest method (not to harm the aluminum) to strip paint from aluminum valve covers?

Regular paint stripper (Zip Strip or similar) will work well.

  3. I remember spilling brake fluid on mine...wrinkled the paint right off!

Lacquer thinner is the go-to paint stripper in my garage. It will cut just about anything.

Used regular old paint stripper on mine, and a old tooth brush to get down into the fins and recesses. Had to reapply a couple times to get the remnants out.
