I have a 57 buick and I want to personalize mine with a few modifications but I was wondering if anybody has seen any or have pictures. Also what does everybody have for ideas for me to set apart from everybody else. I don't want to do any major changes to eliminate any long term down time.

Plenty of them. Best part about customs is you get to do your interpretation of what's cool. Asking others what they would do to your car shouldnt matter to you.

I have a few ideas so far. Lowering it, white walls, frenched blinkers, frenched antenna and a laced roof.

There are a lot of them, and they make cool customs for sure.

To me, the biggest challenge in customizing the 57 Buick is what to do with the headlights. Just molding the headlight buckets in and calling it a day creates a bug eye look with the headlights seemingly protruding forward. If they're moved back, the forward bumper gives an "underbite" look, which is also unappealing. They're very bulky, and a nice diet of some extra chrome and trim can go a long way in cleaning it up

Sounds good. Just lowering and adding the white walls would make it killer. Great looking cars...

Stellar examples are rare, but Bailon's "Candy Wagon" is memorable.

While I have utmost respect for Bailon, my tastes are somewhat different.
But I do think that what sets this car apart (in a good way) from so many other custom '57 Buicks,
is the frenched upper grille surround (albeit a bit exaggerated.)

You can find more pictures under the Joe Bailon customs on Rikster's site.

  23. Jack James' ranks right up there as one of my all time favorites. Paint by Larry Watson. Pictures from Kustomrama.

maybe shave it the emblems, insignias, door handles, then remove the plate from the center of the grille, then you have an open field for bullets and knobs, etc.. then go crazy with two tone paint ala Larry Watson, endless possibilities..

Hope they loaded. Nothing fancy - shaved rear handles, dropped some trim, a little hood striping.

One of my old-timer neighbors talks fondly of his '56 Special. Shaved, Dark Purple Metal Flake, White Naugahyde interior, chrome reverses. He tells me (when his wife isn't around) 'it was a panty dropper'...

Keep it simple, and let the lines of these cars make their own statements. Hard to go wrong there.
