Something that don't seem to be done as much as in the old days. An acquired taste. But I like it. Don't know many cars with it done tho Got more?
Lincoln did something similar on their otherwise-boxy '58, then had second thoughts and removed the effect the following year. By the way, the old Honda you pictured looks somewhat like a Ford doesn't it? I actually thought it was a Ford until I saw the 'H' on the deck lid. I see those "H's every day in chrome on the deck lid of Hondas everywhere.

yea defiantly makes the earlier cars look interesting. Ravenwood - YEA! I love the Lincoln, lot of the concepts had cool wheel openings but never made it to production. A bit too out there for most people I guess. Harry Bradley did it a LOT. I like this truck opening
Cheers for the contributions. that rivera is interesting, would have not thought of doing it to later cars. few more harry Bradley bits.
The Riviera got that treatment when it was brand new! Bradley was "ghost-designer" for the Alexander Brothers. (Designer 'X'.) The above front design concept appeared on their "Venturian" 1956 Chevy, a Riddler Award winner.
These are '60 Plymouth wheel openings with the optional stainless stone guards. I have a set of those stashed and am considering using them on my '53 when it gets a complete re-do. Not to get off topic, but this sure does look like a well done early custom that someone bastardized with some horrible mirrors and seats. A damn shame.
