I recently placed an ad for dodge truck parts.... Had two different responses, both were via private email. One indicated being a hamb member "chknking" i think and came in from jalopy. This guy sent a pic of complete truck that will be torn down for parts. So I asked for pics of when done. They are in Indianna. The other guy is in United kingdom, hmmmm. Saying his parts are in excellent shape. Both people said payment via moneygram paypal dormant...... Asked both for tel ##'s...none yet? Something fishy going on here? What do you think? Please forgive if I am wrong as I will drive to get the parts in IN.
Anything coming out of the UK is suspect. A friend of mine lost $600 for a Hilbourne injection unit from the UK.
I was looking for parts for an OT Fiat on another forum and got a scammer rrom the UK. When I called him on his shadiness, no pics or phone number, he got pissed and kinda threatened me. I let it go but it was really fun stringing him along for two days for a fifty dollar part.
I placed a wanted ad on here a while back and one of the responses I got was from a guy that had Hamb in his e-mail address. It was one of those "send me the money" BS responses but it wasn't from a foriegn country. Just got to be carefull as there are scammers everywhere.
i got scammed here by a half aborted ass-hat from the UK. if it looks like a fish and smells like a fish its probably a scam. sucks as i used to buy all kinds from this site and others with almost no worries, but now im a little safer and leary about dealing with people.

If you want a road trip, tell him you'll come and remove the parts, pay cash at the time. Sounds like a scam to me.....those parts would need a higher price if someone else removing other than the owner, and would be costly to ship for that money.
It's a scam IF... Someone is "parting out" a perfectly good car. Someone requests a money order or money gram. they just happen to have all the parts you need and they will ship them included in the cost of the part. By the way, just because they say they are from the UK, that does't mean they are! One sure way to sift out the trash is to have them take a picture of the part from a certain angle with their left land placed on it.
interesting to note he sends emails in the middle of the night....... I dont think he's in Indiana Mike. Maybe Europe?? You might try to look at 1908 N Janney Ave, Muncie, IN 47304 on Google Streetview.... could be a vacant lot!
lol, seems it is suspect I think saying a pal in Indiana can pick up the parts and pay cash is the way to flush this out as being legit or scam. Hard to avoid that one.
You can tell by the misuse of the King's English that the guy is NOT from the UK, but probably Uganda. Most of these guys are not from the UK but simply use that because it would be more suspicious to put Africa or Russia in their ad. Yes, it is a scam. Don
Here's the truck picture on the AACA forum: http://forums.aaca.org/f148/1938-dodge-truck-clock-rare-351954.html
Thanks for the heads up I JUST BANNED THIS GUY "chknking' He just signed up 2 days ago. LOOK GUYS.................. Not hard to figure out here....... send money gram, paypal account dormant, after you pay I'll have a guy pull the parts to get ready to ship to - bla - bla - bla, Look at post counts - see what they have posted - how long have they been a member. Nothing is guaranteed but do your homework. This guy is a scammer - banned. Just remember - The HAMB is not responsible for any deals.
Guaranteed 100% scam. Go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup and cut and paste his IP address. I'd bet it's African or Indonesian.
Nice work!! And as Don said; the King's english is severely butchered which is a huge red flag. I Google image searched "1938 dodge pickup" and found the image about 3/4 of the way down the first page; https://www.google.com/search?hl=en...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=sdXvUaDiDJDPigLv44GYCg I believe there's a way to search a Google image by dropping it in the search box. Maybe someone better at computers than me could produce a new thread on 'avoiding scams' to include all this info. The HAMB seems to get targeted by these ripoffs that are answering ads here for "parts wanted".
So now we all know its a scam but I have a question.... If Mike 'sends money' to David in Muncie, how does our scammer in Botswannaland get his hands on the money? just askin.
They use mules in the US that get a small cut and then send the rest to them. Take a look at this site. www.419eater.com It is to scamming as the HAMB is to hot rodding. I spent a year on it baiting assholes like your buddy in Indiana. They're total scum preying on a lot of gullible people. Talked them into giving me their bank account info and then forwarded it to be reported. Sent over 100 accounts. Hopefully got some shut down, some thown in jail, but I know that I wasted a lot of their time and had a ball screwing with them
Thanks to all replies I did confirm with person who sold the truck mentioned above to another guy in northern Cal. and he still has it SO BEWARE TO ALL
Buying or selling parts from anyone who is not a HAMB alliance member or a HAMB alliance vendor is a risky transaction. As far as I am concerned the best way to weed out all the cockroaches is to only allow access to the parts for sale & parts wanted ads if you are a HAMB alliance member.
That might not fit all. I have been an alliance member twice in the past and when I can afford it I'll be one again. I want to support this site as much as I can It's one of the best. Terry
I don't know the HAMBer but ask yourself this, why would you import parts for an american car from England. The England one is most likely a scam and as for the HAMBer you may try the the bad sellers list and see if he pops up.
Ya know, the more of these guys get exposed the better off we all are. I get the "hearing impared" BS all the time from Craigslist responders. I just dump the messages, they need a new gag. Good job to all for exposing this scam.
Folks part out complete vehicles all the time because some are worth more in parts. Plus don't think just because someone is on the HAMB makes them legit your wrong, their are a few here that given the chance I would gladly toss a SBC head through their windshield! Maybe even the rest of motor!
