I would recommend an original dropped Ford axle from Sid. He can answer any of your technical questions, too.

  3. The rear can be dropped with longer leaf spring shackles.

actually a better way to go on the rear is to de-arch the and re-roll the eyes of the rear spring. Longer shackles, even with the panhard bar Ford was using by that time kinda make the rear of these cars feel "floaty".

Certainly you can modify the crossmember. That was a fairly common trick back in the day with these cars. About the most you can get with what I suggested is about 4" or so.

square tube makes a good rear cross member and will drop it some, reverse the spring eyes and dearch like mentioned.

This is with the longer shackles and flattened spring and reversed eyes If I remember correctly I think we made the shackles a inch and a half longer

Good! I have seen his work and like it a bunch. You will need to modify your spindle arms to make that dropped axle fit, but do a search here and you will see how it is to be done. It's not too hard to do. Make sure you post some pictures before and after too!

on the front you also need to take to account running a rim/tire set up that will clear your fenders for turning. I had a '47 Ford coupe that had reversed eye/de-arched set up that I removed two leafs from and just cleared running 205/65/15 tires any lower and would have rubbed fenders. Tokico shocks, that were for the rear of a early '60 Corvette, did better than any common big name shock to keep the front end from dipping down too much on bumps in the road.

Shorter and flatter spring …. easier to undo than a cut up cross member

I would be leery of a Speedway axle. They sell a lot of Chinese crap.
Lowering the rear that much will require C-ing the frame and cutting the trunk for clearance. Maybe even raising the tunnel for drive shaft clearance.
Just installed a 4" dropped axle I got from SoCal here in AZ in a 36, took out two leaves and the grille only has 1 1/2" clearance ( what the customer wanted). Had to use the dropped arms and still had to modify then and the wishbones, which I also split.
The rear I installed a 9" Ford with parallel leaves.

If there is not a spring shop in you area, you can use a big hammer and a anvil. It just takes a long time.
'I think with a stock rear end you will have to raise the tunnel. At least at the rear portion.

That is what is meant by "de-arching" the spring. it literally means taking some of the curve out of the spring itself to make the car sit lower.
