This may have been done before but I was wondering how many HAMBers use their vintage cars/trucks as their daily drivers? And how many miles are they driven a year? My wife drives a 72 VW Karman Ghia everyday but only puts about 6000 miles a year. I am working on a 66 C10 truck and hope to put 26000 miles on it a year.
My wife hounded me for years for a Karmann Ghia. I thought she would drive it now and then but she has been my inspiration. That lady drives it every day as her only car, in Texas weather, rain or shine, and heat. I have offered to buy her a new car several times over the years and she refuses. We may all be big talkers and cruise our rides on nice sunny days or to and from shows, but she is the only car person I know that chooses to drive an non-modified, under powered, small 1972 car in Texas year round. That is a daily driver. And yes there have been other threads: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=597722&highlight=daily+driver http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411984&highlight=daily+driver
Wife drives our '61 Falcon deluxe daily. Or she doesn't drive. It's our ONLY car, until we find a Corvair for her. Should prove a good driveway balance: Falcon and Corvair. I'm on my '06 Triumph Tiger 955i every day. Cosmo
I drive my 52 chevy everyday to work again. I used to drive it daily years and years ago but then got a new car but got rid of it now just the chevy and my wife's flex.
I drive my 58 Caddy around daily to do chores and I save the gas sipper for the commute. If I need anything else I'm in the Caddy.
I've got a few; main drivers are an 83 Econoline, 74 Dodge pickup and mostly a 69 Dart. Cover about 12K a year. No AC, in Texas. It's not that bad - I don't spend much time sitting in traffic. Old steel is all I drive.
Huh? This again? I've never owned anything newer than '62. EVER. My '48 Plymouth was the daily driver in the house and most of the time only car from '94-'11. In that time I put close to 250,000 miles on it working all over the country. The wagon came on line in November, and so far I've put about 8,000 miles on it. What always confuses me about these threads is what the original poster is after. Do you want justification for driving your car? Are you afraid someone will be upset? I just don't get it...
This is my new daily. 5100 miles since May 3rd. 35 to work and back every day. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I also drive my 64 c10 everyday, unless I decide to ride the motorcycle. I have a newer truck, I just don't really like driving it. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
1966 F100 for me. Needs paint but it drives smooth and rides comfy. Wishing for air conditioning, but I still enjoy driving it more than our newer cars.
I wish I could but the environment that I work in will eat a car in a matter of no time. I can't even ride my motorcycle to work and save on gas because the dust in the air destroys wiring, rubber seals, paint, glass, etc...... Makes me think about what it is doing to me!
¡Hola! Here's my lo-tech lo-kash daily driver. It's a '63 121 with b20 and 4 speed tranny. 5.60 Firestone www. Lowered as low as possible with iron springs. Kustom made rear fenders. Decked. Side trim removed. 544 Steeringwheel w bullet... More to come... chop... new taillights etc... Oh.. and it's my only running car for now! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A year & a half later . . . I'm on Engine#3. Got it running Saturday after down for 4 weeks. I was riding my DYNO to work. After dicking with Enigine#1, putting it in & out cause it was more than just a Headgasket, I was so close to SBC'g the fucker. It's Running Now. . . So Far. You Gotta Love Cars, If your gonna do it.
I cant drive civilian vehicles. I start pumping brakes or nic the big automatic brake pedal reaching for a clutch pedal. Plus there's no soul to civilian vehicles.
