How much do you think this 50 Chevy sport coupe is worth? See any imperfections? Btw the guy said he has 24k in receipts. Orginal 235 and powerglide. New paint & interior... Thanks

Buying... and it was the first year for the powerglide.

 

Go over the body with a magnet, are there any pics before paint. New paint always worries me unless I know who did the work.

 

Nice looking car! All powerglide '50's were 235 cubic inch with hydraulic lifters...good luck!

 

If you buying offer 8 grand........I would not go more than 12.

Imperfections? Windlace at door frame is frayed.
Photos can't tell the tale as well as a personal inspection.
Worth? What a willing buyer and seller agree upon. 10G, maybe more if I really wanted it.

People always say that to try to justify their price, but it's not all that relevant if you think about it. Not like you can return the stuff.
Think about; just because someone paid 24k in work and parts doesn't mean that the work and parts were worth 24k either. Some may disagree, but it just seems that from my experience, receipts don't mean much to most folks.

 

8-10,12 tops and I've got a bud with a '51 235 and PG numbers matching.I had always thought '53 with PG was first with 235 but it seems that I have been wrong for sixty three years!

 

In this hobby, one never really gets out the car what they put into it. Monetarily that is.

The upholstery I would venture is not original material as seen for a 50's Chevy? Looks very modern to me. With that said, are you looking for a car that is restored to what it would be as sold in the 50's or something close? For me, something close does not warrant a higher price than a car restored to what it would be like when originally sold over 60 years ago. Engine rebuilt? Transmission rebuilt? What other original parts are still in use, have been worked on and are in good working condition? Anything modified in anyway?

For me, looking at the pictures, $15k does not sound unreasonable.

But like anything else, it is worth what you are willing to pay for it.

 

It looks like high retail on that car is around 20k with average being around 13K, so those that have suggested 10-12 are pretty close in my opinion.
People tend to get a little delusional with their prices sometimes...

I would guess $12-14k. I would buy that in a heartbeat at 8k. 8k is too low... but doesnt hurt to try depending what he is asking. If your buying to keep and drive, I would think $14k would be high point.

 

@Buick The interior was just redone, seats and carpet. New drum brakes, motor wasn't rebuilt cuz he said it still runs strong. Mostly all orginal.

 

So if the motor was never rebuilt, and it's still on drums then where does the 24k in receipts come from? Interior and paint?

 

I see the interior is new. The question is if the material and pattern are what was used in 1950 when it was manufactured. In keeping with a restoration theme(if that was the intentions). Great the brakes are done. The engine that is not rebuilt keeps the car around 15K for me. A rebuilt engine puts me at 18-19k max. The car then is relatively new with very little chance of major issues. It is a very nice 2 door and very representative of Chevy in the 50's. I believe the windows are tinted? Again, not knowing if you are going for as original as you can get. These items like tint and seat material/pattern may not matter to you. For me, an original car lunatic, it does. I think anything north of 20K is bit high.

 

I'm thinking $12-14k if its nice.

$24,000 in receipts? That's nice. I just gave away an OT Car to my cousin instead of selling it for $3k. I had receipts for 30x that probably.

 

Seems like you're trying to justify paying more then what its being said here, I'd go 10 max 11... my 2cents anyways.

It looks like a very nice car.
If it's really what you want and it seems fair to you, then why worry about what anyone else thinks it worth.

If you bought one unrestored and paid someone to restore it you would probable have $25k in it.

take a piece of cardboard next time you look at the car. lay it down and slide underneath. check all the body mounts, the inner rockers and the floor. look at the body behind the gravel pans. then look at the trunk floor if it has a mat. replacement metal is ok if done right. lowers the price if done wrong.
