    Hmmm....That's the same weekend as The Meltdown Drags in Byron ILL. Rockford is only about 20 miles from the dragstrip. :D:D:D

    A ride in Aluminum Overcast is well worth the cost. She was in Peoria about 15 years ago and the flight in this B-17 is a lifetime memory of mine. :cool::cool::cool:

    Yeah, I did 2 years ago. I stayed there for 1/2 the flight. Cool beyond words. Also looking out the bombadier's nose piece was cool too.

  6. Oh, that's probably what it is then. False alarm.

    They were in kc 2 weeks ago. Lees summit airport. Watched them flying over work for a couple days. Awesome sound and sight as it seemed to buzz the hospital.

    From what I remember The Aluminum Overcast never seen combat as it was built late in the war. So no it ain't no ghost. Still a cool ride.

    I'm looking forward to a ride in a P-51 Mustang next year while also attending LAR show, (2 place cockpit,tandem).
    It might have been the one you spotted.
    The owner has 2 Mustangs, 1 for Reno racing, 1 for pleasure.----Don

    Hey Jay, Dad and I were over at Bobg's shop that day, why didn't you wave!?! Haha. I was dying for them to make one more flight but we just missed the last one.
    I think of the pressure those guys were under and the frigid cold on the way to and from targets, those guys were the real American Bad-Asses and our country today is an embaressment to their sacrifice.

    B-17 is my favorite bomber. There is one in a museum in McMinnville, OR. I got to crawl around inside of it, too cool! Thanks for sharing.

    If you get a chance to ride on this B-17, GO! Yeah, it's $400 or so bucks, but think of it this way: 1) you will get to experience a little of what our veterans felt when sent in harms way to protect our freedom, 2) it's a "bucket list" thing that if it's not on your list, it will be after your ride, and 3) you help fund keeping this old bird flying for more people to experience it.

    A very good friend of mine will be one of the pilots flying the hops while in Tulsa. Note: none of these folks helping with the tour (pilots, tour guides, etc) get paid for what they're doing - all volunteer.

    Cool pics. Don't miss the chance to go for a ride. They had one here and my uncle and I went for a ride. At that time they were trying to ban them from flying from city to city and giving rides. Could be your last chance.

    Look at the oil stains on the ground under each engine. Thats a radial for ya!! Don't stand behind them when they're firing up or you'll be a walking oil slick!!!

    God damn it... :(

    There's a B-29, a B-24, and a B-25 (most of the latter were built here) coming the last week of August/first couple of weeks in September.

    I would love to get some pics of my 40 in front of it. That would be almost as cool as a flight!

    There was a guy showed up here on Thursday with a 37 Studebaker, when the folks with the plane found out what he was driving they had him drive it out on the flight line for some pics. I missed it though.

    they could of , Studebaker and Dodge built a lot of Radial engines for Pratt Whitney during the war , Dodge built them in whats now called Ford city ( 74th and Cicero in Chicago ) which was also the tucker car works after the war , then Ford built jet aircraft engines there after they got it now its part shopping mall and the tootsie roll candy company ... ( the old engine test cells are still standing )

    When you buy a ride on a B-17, do you get to choose were you'll sit, such as the tail gunner seat or the very front nose seat?

    I had an exciting experience Tuesday. the WWII era B-17, "Sentimental Journey" made a promotional stop here in Muskegon, MI.
    This is a fully functioning aircraft based out of Mesa, AZ.
    I had the extreme fortune to have my 40 coupe photographed with this piece of history. Here is a link to the story too;

    Thank-You to all the veterans also;

    They are headed to Hamilton, ONT Canada (YHM) next. Be sure to check it out, if you are anywhere near by.

    My dad was sent to guard one that had crash landed in France during WWII, he was with the Royal Engineers, the radio operator tuned the radio to some big band music so that they wouldn't get bored. The following day a crew arrived and stripped out anything that was salvageable and they then destroyed the plane.

    There are a B17, B24,B25 and B29 bombers coming to Ellington Field for the Wings over Houston event in October. All of them are available for rides among others. Here's the link.
