Tri state dragway was a 1/8th mile dragstrip located in Kahoka Missouri operating in the 1960's. Advertised as "the fastest 1/8th mile in the nation" I got the pleasure to visit this old drag strip today. The famous "clark county fair" metal sign is still above the gate. The asphalt strip is still there........I know someone made a facebook page for it with a lot of cool old pics but I wanted to do my own thing and see it for myself......it was sooo cool! I have some "then" and "now pics....... Pic1 Inside the main gate today... pic2 Outside the main gate then.... pic3 Looking down the drag strip from the main gate.... pic4 Looking up the drag strip from the end of the track... pic5 Inside the main gate then.... pic5 The main gate then...
Neat pics. So it was/is on a fairgrounds? I didn't know 1/8 mile tracks were happening that long ago. Thought it was a fairly new concept.
Yes....drag races were held in the fair ground parking lot. The 1/8th mile and shut down is all still there.....pretty neat I think!
I went to Kahoka frequently during the early sixties. Jim Baker was manager several years. He writes a monthly column in dragracingonline.com. Many times he writes of those old Kahoka stories. Great times great memories.
Just saw this post. My dad from Milton, IA ran his 56 Chevy there the first year of operation. It was in 1960 or perhaps 1961. Many well known national/regional/local drivers used this strip.
