Small Block Ford ID help!

    I got a 64 Galaxie and the guy wasn't for sure on the motor displacement. I looked behind the starter but didn't pull it and found the below numbers. Looks like ETTE SCA. My guess is its most likely a 302, but hopefully one of you Ford experts will chime in. 6 bolt valve covers. Or tell me some more places to check. Btw, I know it's definitely not the original motor.     Looks like E7TE on that casting, which would be 1987 on the year, most likely a 302. Run a tape measure across the intake, center to center of two intake bolts across from one another will measure right about 7 1/2 inches on the 302, the 351 is wider, I don't have one here to measure right now.

    E7TE would be a roller block.... I have one in my '96 F-150 pick'em up truck.... Also the 5.0 ponies have that motor....
    I also have one on a stand ready for a "re-fresh" and a tunnel ram setup..:)

    I don't think that Ive ever seen sbf valve covers stamped like that. Its for sure a 302 though.

    Its definitely a 302 factory roller block.

    Wow thanks guys, cleared up my confusion. Yea and on the plug wires I've only had the car for about 6 hours and haven't gone through it yet. Thats next

    That looks like a later set of Ford valve covers. I have seen a set like that on a Ford Racing crate engine.
     
  11. Ford started in the 40s with a letter/number system for identifying parts. So the 'E' means the 80s, the 7 is the decade year, and the T is truck. So that motor was out of a '87 truck/suv....

    **yep, gotta give him some time of fixing replacing stuff. the return spring hooked to the water pump and the distributor vacuum canister without a hose to it looks nice too.

    I know, I know, you guys are just jealous of my lack of vacuum lines and return springs, floppy plug wires and my uber custom mountain dew 2 liter bottle fuel cell. I'll make you guys out a parts list later. But hey! I pulled her out of an old mans barn this morning!
