I am a crew member so I know how you feel. Make a list of every thing you need check it twice. Be prepared to do a ton of waiting around use that time to do look over on the car. Have a separate small tool box to take to the start line. Have just the tools you would need to make minor adjustments. When you get to the line put all safety pins in that box. Nothing is worse than miss placing them. Always pin the fire bottles at the end of the run. You never know when a handle could get pulled in the pits. Good luck.

If I'm reading my rule book right the PRO/XXO record is 134. If that's the case you will be restricted to the short course (unless you are packing an elephant motor). The lines on the short course are a lot shorter than the long course (where all the big dogs go). After the opening weekend its almost a case of arrive and run. You won't have too long to wait.

have some pit transportation to get to the port-a-john, etc. if you have some down time and you are done triple checking your car look around and see if someone else needs some help. not everyone shows up with a crew.

I was planning on Speedweek with the 650 Triumph I built but it's just not happening..The Finals are cooler weather for air cooled bikes but it also rains then....
It's a big deal for us out East driving 2300 miles to get there. Our plans were/are to have a friend/driver haul the bike and stuff out there in a pu truck and met us ...

I do have a question about registration, maybe you guys can help clarify. I know we can submit our (late) entry form and register at the event, but do you NEED to be a member of BNI and ALSO a member of one of the SCTA clubs?

We have our entry number, #3663 running PRO/XXO, so please go easy on the rookies in the black '36 Century.

You need to be a member of BNI. You can join on the salt. You do not need to be a member of an SCTA club unless you want to run at El Mirage also.

To get inspected you will need a log book. They are purchased at the table in front of the registration trailer. There will always be plenty of people around to help. Just look for the white haired guy with the white shirt and dayglow hat on!

Couple more quick questions, the rulebook isn't exactly crystal clear....

    1. Running in PRO/XXO will we be burning event gas or do we need to bring our own? Just to clarify, GAS. Not fuel.

    2. Can anyone clarify the difference between C/CGC and PRO/XXO?

You must buy and use the event gas in the gas classes.
More advice- don't let anyone sit on the CB mike!

Since no one answered your specific questions:

    1. If you're going for a record, you must buy event gas and have the tank sealed. If you're running for fun or experience, you can run your own gas.

    2. Difference between C/CGC and PRO/XXO? About 100 MPH. In C/CGC you're not required to run an engine that came with the car.

Pretty familiar with the XO/PRO class. We currently hold the record.

Thanks guys. I wasn't certain on the fuel issue, but figured we'd have to run their gas. The question about C/CGC is pure curiosity, it would be pretty fun to run 230 in our car though.

The grandfather of Bonneville racing credited his succes to abstinence from alcohol and tobacco.

I believe it would take more than that to sit in a cockpit for 24 hours or more they way they did back then.

    Remember metal valvestem caps.

  22. is it the cap or the valve stem?

Metal caps required. The theory is that the valve can be forced open due to centrifugal force and plastic caps can break or leak.

Rulebook states any tire NOT running a tube must have metal stems and caps.

  27. in addition to; if tube with angled valvestem relative to rotational plane must be secured to resist centrifugal force deflection.
