I have an Olds diff. in my 37 GMC panel wagon and I need axle seals for it. I think its 57-64 Olds but not sure, got 4.88 gears in it for sure. The passenger side has casting numbers 522488 and the drivers side says A227. Was going to call NAPA and order but I need a model and year. Thanks for all your help!

There is a big thread on "Olds Pontiac rear ends" . I am sure there are ways to ID it on there, and I thought there was some seal number info ...maybe.

If you can't find it, I will look later today

The casting number should be 522498 which is first generation (second generation was 535200 or 534548, third generation was 543317)

    The date code is A227, January (A) 22nd, 1957

Pics are a big help. If I was "smart", I would have kept track of actual 6-digit casting numbers over the years. But I didn't. Usually can ID by looking at a few things though.
