Unreal build man.. I look at your trucks body and wish mine was even close to yours! I paid twice as much for my 55' r100 and it needs more patches than a punk rockers vest. Awesome work so far, you're for sure putting awesome work into this thing.

 

so you had to fab engine and tranny mounts? I have been thinking of updating my 1950 l120 with a swap, any idea what engine tranny would work with current drive train. really just want to cruise on the interstate at comfortable speeds.

I've wondered if there is a way to put the fenders, hood, and grill off one of these big IH trucks on a pickup or Travellall? The cabs look similar.

That's an r180 or r190 I think they made them into the late 60s I personally would like to do an overgrown pickup truck with one of those, keep the big wheels and frame and build a large pickup bed on the back. Maybe add power from a big ford or chevy or some kinda diesel and if you wanted to modernize it you could maybe use running gear from a newer school bus or something. But granted I know a lot of us don't have the big tools or garages for these tyoe trucks. I am wanting to do the pickup thing with a mack b series or old autocar. with that there would not be many limits with what you could pull or haul

 

I love this truck... I'm still building up the courage to modernize an old chassis. Good job.

Nice build! What radiator did you use? I need to replace my stock one when I put the V8 in. thanks, in advance.

 

This is exceptional work and by far my favorite classic truck build. I just aquired a '55 R-110 myself and i'd be thrilled if it comes out half as cool. The body on mine is twice as rough and I paid a bit more than you did for yours, oh well.

That color is perfect too. Matter of fact when looking around for color inspiration for my binder and I found a roadster with a similar color that really caught my eye, just a little more gray. Thanks for posting a detailed build of the frame work. I will be using a bag setup and your photos will come in handy come time for mock-up.

You used the original rear end?
also the X-member used was the 24" to 30" outside frame widths universal kit?

Sorry to pester with questions just trying to get a parts list going and if you've already done it so well, why waste time researching any more.

On the radiator: It is a Northern Aluminum with trans cooler (this exact one....http://www.kmjent.com/cart/gm-chevy-26-x-19-aluminum-radiator-w-oil-cooler.html )
I fabbed the mounting brackets out of some raw aluminum I had and tigged them on.

Rear end is in fact the original Dana 44 that came in the R-100. 4.11, but I may go to 3.73 down the road for cruising.

It was the wider Heidt's crossmember I used and made sure to weld it a little bit higher on the frame than they suggested to get it to lay frame when aired out.
