32 ford guys, I have a question. Will a 3w coupe tack strip fit a 5w? If not, how much modification? Anyone sell a 5w tack strip? Thanks.
They are different. I made a tackstrip for my 3w out of a couple of 32 sedan tackstrips. The key is to have the four corner pieces, makes for an easy job. Also, if you have an original 3w tackstrip that your thinking of cutting up, I'd think twice as they are worth big bucks!
United pacific is working on one. Should be available this later this summer. I believe it will be the 1st to be reproduced as original.
This kit is ,as you say universal and is more suited for street rods and doesn't use the original tack strip. HRP
I always bought the stuff in straight lengths and work it around the corners 1 nail at a time. It also takes 3 apps of sealant. 1 for the outer edge of the strip and top material, 1 under the molding where the nails go through, 1 over the nails as the top "flap" gets gently hammered down and leveled. best to have someone inside to shore up the wood too when you're driving the nails and laying the top piece over. Last, I use a 3-4" block of hardwood to get a final smooth shape without hammer head bumps. I even do that on wireon.
I don't know about the 3-window strip fitting the 5-window, but I do know that the 5-window tack strip will be available within the next few months from UP.
