What wheel covers - should I buy? (Shoebox)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fordstandard, Jun 17, 2013.

  1. I want to finish the car and am stuck deciding what wheel covers will best work on the car.

    Suggestions please!

First you need to pick the direction you're going in with the car. Beauty rings with spider caps would look cool, spinners, mexican hats, etc... It's all a matter of personal taste. There are plenty of threads showing steelies with all kinds of different caps and trim rings and in various colors. Ultimately the look is up to you.

I agree with Buzznuts - much like color , wheel covers are totally a personal preference . Do what makes ya happy .

  6. I'm running wide whites and black rims on my 49 Ford. May run the beauty rings that came with it but I kinda like the bare look for now....

'56 Olds..........NOT Fiesta spinner type.........just plain '56 Olds......subtle look, some detail but not flashy. You got the Desoto grille for flash.

Cars are a lot like women..........too much 'makeup' and they look.......well....less than their best. :D

  11. '56 are Starfires. '53-'55 Fiestas are cool too. Silhouettes 57 nailed it.

  12. 57 Caddy with bullets for a fierce look, or Caddy sombreros for a softer look.
You can tell I like Caddys!

On my 49 coupe, I ran 1950 olds (mock) somberos on mine until they became overly popular. Now i run 55 merc full caps to be different.

'60 Buick hubcaps look good with wide whites, sort of have a built in bullet or dagmar and not everyone will have them.

Are you running 14" or 15" wheels? That would narrow it down.

I have a set of REALLY nice 14" Lancers in the classifieds if you're interested. Selling those to finance 16" Lyons.

Maybe something simple? Wider whites and 53 Olds or 50ish Pontiac Sombreros.

Lots of options. Wheel covers are an easy way to make it yours, however if it were mine, I'd start with some lowering blocks in the rear and some wider whitewalls... then either 48-52 cad sombreros, '53 cad covers, '57 Lincoln premiers or '57 lancers. Just my .02
