56 Dodge Steering Box and Column

    Take a look at the photos and see if you can tell me how the spring will be compressed that seals the felt on the steering shaft. The column does not have anything for the spring to rest on.

    According to my 1955 D55/56 Dodge Shop Manual you have a large washer missing above the spring. I pretty sure the steering boxes are the same for 55-56. You should have a washer up against the seal (which you have), the spring and then another similar washer - its this one you seem to be missing.

    That sounds right. I just did not see that washer when I took it apart. Wonder what to use in place of it? Hose clamp?
     
  4. sorry I have to work tomorrow and won't be in my storage - remind me and I'll look at the one I have out...if it has it - I could mail it to you....if your not putting it back right away...
