My Harbor Freight one lasted all the way thru my daughter's '65 VW Squareback. Then the oil sputtering started. Is there a guarded secret which 'air tool oil' to use? I'm of the mind anything you put in there's gonna come out the exhaust port. Other than that, it works well...as does the purple HVLP gun.
I had the HF one. Worked for about 3 minutes before the shaft broke and sent the pad flying across the garage so hard it dented the door. You must've got a better one than me haha
I've been using a national detroit da or daq for 40 yrs. the diff in the two q stands for quiet ,both are superior tools
I have commercial junk (like harbor freight) 5 & 6" and recently got the bluepoint 3" - the 3" is the tits. I'm scouring the fleamarkets to upgrade the bigger ones. I find lots of sander/grinders but no bluepoint DA's
DA's are hard on your hands. If your going to spend much time with one, I'd step up and buy a good one. Lots of good ones out there. I've had my hutchins for 25 years. Still works great
I've grenaded 2 harbor frieght ones... don't recommend. my friend has a dynabrade and it's 10x better.
I bought one from Snap On at my first body shop job. Around 20 years later now its still working fine. Only had to be rebuilt once after my buddy left it out in the rain for a few days. Good friends are hard to find
I've worn out a few since 1970. The one I always pick up is the 3M without a handle. It has the air valve on top of the body and is as handy as a pocket on a shirt.
My Ingersoll-Rand has lasted several decades. The HF one lasted a month and stripped the screw holding the pad on. Replaced it with a quality screw & Loctite and holding up so far.
I should have saved my money. I bought a Horrible Freight one, and it eats way too much air and stalls...worst part is that I knew better than to buy one from them.
there is one at HF that has a vacuum hose on it...it looks very much like so more expensive ones I have seen. I live about 1/4 mile from HF so breaking is no biggie..in all honesty though, I went outside to use mine and see its a Ingersol Rand. I have had it for 15 yrs.
Best: Dynabrade / Hutching Better : Mac, Snap on, Matco, IR then...your cheapies... Box store/HF stuff. I have 2 dynabrade plam 5" , Hutch Standard 6". Blue Point Mud hog and a Matco 2 inch nibber. Love my Dynabrades.... --- Levi
I have an old craftsman, at least 20 years old, still going strong but rarely used. HF is for things you want to throw away rather than clean.
Ingersol-Rand at work, Blue Point at home...both work great Keep in mind a DA is only as good as the compressor behind it and the paper you put on it....IMHO
I'm with the Hutchins, the Dyna-Brade, and also have on old heavy I.R.(looks like a pot metal Dyna, LOL) top three are worth your money..They will pay for themselves, and Crusty 's right , HF. you hog em and chuck them.... JT
Im using a Husky brand DA from Home Depot. It's awesome and works better than the one i had from HF. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I've had my Ingersoll for about 30 -40 years now and hasn't skipped a beat. I don't use it every day though. Ken
I have used for over 40 yrs a National Detroit Da and Daq. They are used every day and have never given any problems. Like any tool you must give them air tool oil every time before you use them. I also have a snap-on finish Da for color sanding. ( BEEN IN THE BODYSHOP TRADE OVER 40 YRS) HF copy of a National is ok for hobby use and if you get a yr use out of it consider yourself lucky.
