How many ways have you used/seen to disguise a small block chevy? Show me yours.

I've seen a lot of guys at car shows do just that.:D

  4. Is it just me and my thinking or is it completely asinine to go thru the trouble and expense to do this ?

If you want a SBC then dress it up nice, be proud and that's the end of it.
If you want something different then get something different.

Install something else, then use a tarp in the corner of the garage.

Looks like @ least some are realizing endless rows of bellybutton engined cars are boring.

  8. Not a disguise. Just a joke. 406" sbc. I can't count how many people really thought it was the "rare 406 Thunderbird option"

SBC is arguably as traditional as the flathead Ford V8 or any other period engine. Why would you want to disguise it? Yeah, you see a lot of them, but for good reason - they're affordable, obtainable, perform and look great.

it is what it is, a perfectly good engine. I've got 60's cal custom valve covers, 50's 3x2 intake, 3 97's, on my 84 350 in my 30 coupe. I think it looks great.

  16. Flatheads are OK but the sun don't rise and set around them alone.....I remember in the late fifties here in my corner of the hotrod universe, that the Chevy powered hotrods were far more the usual than the orig flathead cars.
I suspect the same went on all over as FH's were less reliable and underpowered.......nobody wants a slower engine in the hotrod if there is a choice....

  17. Why even bother to disguise? Those who know will know, those who don't know wont care.

I was impressed with a hemi stuffed into a 40'S chevy, then it was pointed out that it was actually a SB with hemi valve covers!

You really had to look twice to tell, even the block was covered with formed sheetmetal.

sbc outlasted the flathead and has been used more than any other engine ever made.by us,the hotrodder.cant get more traditional that that. in a few more yrs people are gonna want a sbc and cant find them.well the cheap ones anyway. the will run low on #s just like the flathead.the day will come. i wont be here but it will come.....

The thing about camoflage is that it's only effective until it isn't.

The second it isn't, you're dead.

Perhaps "disguise" is a bad choice of words? Ways to give a sbc an unexpected look without actually hiding what it is is another question. Lots of possibilities there.

This one got me to do a doubletake.

I'm not big on disguised engines but that on got my attention.

Anything with an alligator hood looks a hell of lot better with the hood closed anyhow unless the show requires that the hood be open.
