Truck runs drives and stops. Anyone have any good used parts sources for this? This is my first FORD, I don't know what to do! Thanks!
Mac's Antique Auto Parts has a Ford truck catalog as well. From your VIN data plate (from what I could find online): F10C0A18746 F10 = Model F-100 C = 292 V-8 (so the 6 you have isn't original) 0 = 1960 A = built in Atlanta, GA 18746 = production number Color code J = Monte Carlo Red Date 16C = Wednesday, March 16, 1960 Trans code 2 = Spicer 5831B auxiliary A = 3-speed standard Axle code 01 = 3.70
Chris, do you have a link for that site.? BTW I have the same pump as in you profile pic in my driveway.
Not really sure. I go to get it Saturday. I guess it depends on how well its runs drives and stops. Interesting that the truck was originally a v8 and someone put in a straight 6. I am about to get a crash course on ford engines!
Looks like a solid truck and a good price. I was watching a rough 57 here and it went for $3500. They tend to get rust in the lower cab corners, around the running board step and at the bottom of the A pillar in the cab floor. Nothing wrong with those straight 6s in a truck!
Congrats on the purchase. Looks real nice. I believe quite a few parts interchange between the larger Ford trucks like doors, cabs window glass, dash pieces - not for sure on that, but believe they do. Also look here for good info: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273008 Enjoy!!!
Truck comes home tomorrow. So the seller says the truck wont start. Any tips on getting an old ford to start?
Check the basics to start it. good battery good battery cables, If the starter doesnt spin, take it off, use jumper cables to see if it will spin if not, look inside, repair as needed a little diesel down the spark plug holes is lubrication for turning the motor over after engine turns freely, points condensor, cap, plug wires is the gas tank ok inside? take the fuel line off, turn engine, does the pump squirt strong? replace fuel filter is it running yet? rebuild carburetor somewhere in all this it should run
We ended up picking up the truck today, and the seller could not get the truck to start, so he knocked off $400 from the price. Once we got it home, we cleaned and reconnected the battery cables more securely and also replaced one of the terminal connectors and the truck started up. It ran a little rough until we put some fresh gas into it and it seemed to help. It was a long day but worth it!
If that's a 240 / 300 six you're gonna love it. Where to start? Running smooth, once the fuel runs clean swap in a metal fuel filter, grab someone cool and go hit a Saturday gathering with some of that loot you saved. That's a bunch of free cruising! What a great truck. Me? Down 2" in front, 1" in back, chrome steelies, underhood detailing and maybe a little pinstriping. Done.
