love the progress, keep the updates coming.

Friend of mine had a 64 Buick, looks like the same car in medium blue, about the same trouble spots. he kept it on the road every summer for years before tearing it apart.

I decided to start the new year off on a good step. I have been meaning to address an issue from when I first picked up the car, but I knew it involved a lot of work, and I didn't want to take the car off the road for too long.

The rust was pretty substantial, the Driver side taillight was so far gone. I pulled the entire housing out with my hand. The rust extends into the quarters, and will require a fair amount of patch work.

I bit the bullet and started to tear into her.
I cut out the entire tail light panel.
Then mocked up the replacement panel I had picked up a few years back. I picked it up from a a guy that was slangin 64 bits on Craigslist.
I ultimately would like to replace the taillights with a set from a 66 Electra, but this will work for the time being.

Still have a lot of tweakin and massaging to get it to fit right. At least it is a step in the right direction.
Oh yeah, I also finished the replacement of the passenger side door.
Still lots of work left, but my New Years Resolution is to have it in Shiny Paint by the end of the year.

Getting closer! Now just the lower q-panels? Silver with red/black accents should look cool with that red interior.

  8. Looking good. Dig the car, nice body style. Silver would look pretty good on there. Where exactly is Adkins?

Thanks. I work on it when I get a chance. The Army keeps me pretty busy!

Adkins is actually south east of SA about 15 miles.

Well I finally got around fixing some off the half ass workI did in the past. I had sanded the entire car to bare metal becauss of the shitty paint and layets of bondo. I used some rustoleum primer, and rustoleum clear on the roof. After a few months, it started to surface rust underneath the primer.
I learned my lesson to not half ass it again.
I applied a few coats of Nason 2k primer, and will start the long process of sanding to get it ready for some color!

Been workin on her whenever I get a chance. Been doin a little body work and some other things just piddlin around on it. I have also been trying to get it to run better.
She left me stranded about a month back, my gas gauge is not working, so I ran out of gas, and the battery died when I was trying to start it up.
I pulled the starter to replace it, and have had no luck with the parts stores, they keep ordering the wrong starter.
If anyone has a Part # for a 64 401 nailhead, that would be great!!

After going to the parts store, and them ordering the wrong starter, I finally got the correct one. I had to look at the parts catalog, and match up the mounting holes for the block.

For those that are interested, the Napa Part # is 44-0780.

I then cleaned it up and took a couple photos.

Funny thing is i know AutoZone has the wrong part listed for the 64-66 starters. I have tried to get them to correct a couple times and they really don't seem to care.

    Looks great!
Can I ask where you found those caddy center caps for the wire wheels? I am looking for a set, right now I have "cragar" centers but would love a set of caddy ones.

I think I need to mow my lawn!!:D

No Problem, Whats the status on your Truck, did you get the clip done?

Thanks, I have been throwin that around in my mind. The top will definitely have some silver in it!

If you look it up in Napa's computer system, they list the 6.6L as a 400, not a 401. When I told the person behind the counter the starters should be the same as the 425, they looked at me like I had a dick growin out of my forehead!

Thanks, I picked these up from a member on the LBCC Message board. They were slightly used, and I believe he got them from here, You might send them a message and see if you can get the Caddy Center caps

Hahahahha! It's amazing how little these people know about cars! When I was a kid I worked at Sears in the auto shop. I mainly did mufflers and exhaust, but I tried to know about as many different cars as I could. These people are not car guys or they would know.

This whole list of crap that they have to go through before they can tell you the wrong part is flipping rediculous. It's the same on Rock Auto, but at least I do it myself.

I haven't had time to do the clip yet, still working on my cousin's car and it's in the way. It will be finished soon so I can get the GMC in there and start cutting. I'll post the progress on my other thread as I go.

    Later.

I'm glad I found this thread today, full size cars with bucket seats and console from the sixties are the coolest.

I vote no to any silver or grey or any other dull colors. Original red or some other bright color from the era would be the coolest. (my 2 cents)

Keep up the good work, hope to see it at the round-up.

Finally getting some work done. Welded up a patch in the lower fender, and welded up the trim holes. Started spreading a little mud to even it out!

Nice to get back to it. How are you coping with the heat/humidity? A lot more than in WA I think.

It has been some time since I have actually done any work on the car. I travel alot for work and when I get back it seems like my honey-do list is full and I gotta spend time with the kiddos.
I leave again in a couple days and It is lookin like maybe December I might get to throw some more time at it!

My work space is a covered garage with a dirt floor. No windows, doors, airflow, etc. It gets mighty warm in there so I limit the hours I spend workin on it. WA was alot easier to work outside as long as you stayed out of the rain!
