I've searched for hours trying to determine what the hell this air cleaner/breather/spark arrestor/thingy is off of...and the year it was made. Cast aluminum...steel louvered breather can with some kind of dry caged filter element inside...fits a rochester 2 brl perfectly...wondering if 3 would fit on a 3x2 setup...any help is much appreciated...
If the caged filter element inside is brass or copper, it is a flame arester for a boat. The brass will absorb the flame and heat from a backfire to prevent an explosion in the engine compartment.
GMC built DUCK boat-trucks for WW2. They had 302's . Might of had a 2 5/8 carb. Does the paint look like Olive Drab?
Winner Winner chicken dinner. I believe that gas pumper hit the nail on the head here. Now larry 3 of those in a tri power will look lame as hell. Do you got 3 of them? Can I have 'em? You just gave me one helluva idea for my 2x4 setups. It'll be work but that's hot rodding isn't it.
I vote boat. Boats generally have small filters, cuz they run in a relativley dust-free environment compared to a truck or tractor. That one looks designed to fit under a low hood or a boat deck. The 327s in my '58 Chris Craft have side draft carbs tucked down into the valley for a low profile.
Some but not all flame arrestors have USCG (US Coast Guard) approved stamped into the edge of filter section.
