I have been looking at all the aftermarket door safety locks and really don't care for most of them, what did you do to keep your early iron doors from popping open when using original door latches i.e model A's. I have thought of installing bearclaws but would like to see other options before i do... pics if you have em, please Thanks, Dave L.
Not homemade but kinda.... 1. Used Carolina Custom door pin solenoids. Pin mounts in jamb and goes into hole in door. Solenoid retracts pin. 2. We dont want the door pin capable of activating when the door is open because the pin wil bend when you slam the door. To prevent this, use a dome light switch in door that is wired in series....no power to pin solenoid when door is open. 3. Solenoid pin wired using Dakota remote key fob, viola! power door locks 4. You can now leave the car with the windows down. If someone reaches in to unlatch door, nothing happens since solenoid pins are holding door closed. 5. Installed a manual pull wire in trunk for use if battery dies Door will NOT open unless pin is retracted. 6. No wires into door only addition to door is hole somewhere in latch area. Hoffman sells rip off of Carolina Custom unit design, of course, lesser quality by Hoffman.
I used to have a chain link welded to the door and one to the body and a horse shoe to keep it in line... Wish i had a picture of that one.
I am using the original door lock for the model a, was used on the drivers side so I added one to the pass. side. Lee
I Made these for my 33 Fordor Vicky Convertible Sedan,the Dovetails are solid Stainless ,drilled which guides the Bolt into a Plastic Caster plug located in the Female Dovetail Reciever,the Escutcheons are from 29 Model A,the barrel of the Bolt slides through an Uphostery clip secured to the inner door panel which provides tension and prevents it from unlocking by itself here is a thread relating to my locks http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=577411
