need ideas for a cool steering wheel,,,65 F100

i HATE the stock steering wheel in my 65 F100, i don't want to just replace it with a moon sparkle steering wheel (although i do like them),,,looking for something different....what kind of ideas do you guys have?

 

I'd be looking for a 59-61 olds , buick or pontiac they have a really nice deep dish. olds be my first choice of the 3, if not one of the semi square Chrysler wheels. have to agree most of those ford truck wheels are really plain jane.

 

i have one of the semi square chrysler wheels (imperial),,,it's already slated for the telstar..........it seems i'm limited to ford/lincoln/mercury wheels due to the splines interchangability, unless someone knows something i don't.....

 

I like the moon sparkle wheel idea but throw a bullet on it so it matches the spider caps you put on there... heres one I did for my stude,

 

I think the early to mid 60's F series trucks have killer wheels to begin with, I'd just flake that 2 tome and rock it!

 

'61 impala wheel would be cool.

how did you adapt that dodge wheel to the ford column? or is it a dodge column?

I'd just go see what I could find cheap. 55-57 Ford car wheels look decent enough.

 

Pipes' wheel is a '57 Plymouth if you're going for that.

My '52 has a '59 Ford wheel with a '57 horn ring, I like the '59 wheel because it has a nice area to break a two tone paint line on it, and the horn ring I just had. Should fit the pickup spline.

Like Squablow, I love the 56-59 Ford Wheels, and they are a direct swap.

 

How about a 1960 f100 custom cab steering wheel. Painted with red metal flake.

I scratch built this one! 120 pieces of wood, 15 stainless rods, a stainless ring, an aluminum center and some assorted hardware and a weeks work. 18" diameter for my truck.

I have one of those for my Fury that needs to be recast, quoted $1600 for the job. Have seen nice ones like yours bring about the same money. Hope it didn't have to get cut to put it on that column, where did you find it?

 

I used ziricote on the back, amazon rosewood on the front and the white divider pieces are hard maple. It is a one off, because I'll never do one that complicated again. I expect the wood on it to go to hell with time, so when that happens I'll wrap it with leather or coxcomb it.
