Hot Rods I got my Model A just about done...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, May 28, 2013.

  1. Thanks to the help of my friends... the car is almost finished!

All I have to do now is mount the bumpers after I get the brackets back from the powder coater... and get the carpet done.

Utter than that... you can stick a fork in it, it's done!

Bro-Matt will be flying out from Chi-Town in June and we're going to drive down to the Father's Day Show.

Damn! I have NEVER seen a roof for a rumble seat! Is that your idea? If, so, genius! VERY nice looking A.

A beauty. That's how a resto rod ought to look.

Well done Sam. It's so great to see it out on the road.

  9. The top is called a "Rumble-Cozy"

There was a book that had a lot of accesories for the Model A Ford that was published back in the day. There were two different tops for the rumble seat that were produced back then.

My dad's good friend Joe Stewart took the idea... and manufactured several tops (I think 10) back in the early 70's.

He actually had the back half of a Model A that he made into a trailer... and this top was his display model.

Well, when he decided to get out of the Rumble Cozy business... my dad bought this top for our Model A. This was around 1976-77 or so.

So aside from the chassis/stance/wheels/engine and trans... the car is as it was from 1974 to 1991 when my dad sold it.

I found it on e-bay in 2006 and bought it back... it was still a stocker... and in Bentonville Arkansas.

I grew up riding in this thing... we even road tripped to Kansas in 1978... all five of us... Matt was 4, adn he rode up front with mom and dad... and John and I rode in the rumble seat.

Here are some other threads on the build up.

I absolutely love it! When are you going to lower the front some more? (;v)>

So I gather this has a V6 and an automatic (no judgment), but I don't see where that was detailed. What exactly do you have underhood?

I really admire that this is the completion of your father's plan for the car.

  18. I would lower the front more... but then I wouldn't be able to jump rail road tracks with it!

  21. I am too Don!

Just so everyone knows... Don Dillard, Rotten Rodney Bauman and Rich Wright spent a few days here at my place doing the body work on the fenders and helping me get the A driving.

Then I took the fenders to my friends shop, Alloy Motors in Oakland, and they finished blocking them and painted them for me!

Also big thanks to Simeon Kennedy, Tim Sage, Steve Pattee and Clint Gibson. My close friends who are always helping me out!

I liked that engine in our '96 Blazer (it was like a small V8), and I'm sure it will scoot that "A" along very nicely.
