    My choice is a pontiac, but that is because "Project 32" ran one and I am a sentimental kind of guy.

    This line makes no sense?

    As ya'll nay know I'm a big Caddy fan, but in this case I'd run with the olds. Find a 4x2 intake for it.

    If that somehow doesn't pan out that Caddy motor bumped up to 10:1 with a mild cam would be fun:)

    Flathead = no power
    OHV Cadillac and Nailhead will have more power. Nailhead parts are easier to come by than the first generation OHV Cadillac. Besides that - the Nailhead is the best looking OHV V8 ever made!

    stay with the olds if you have all the adaptors---flatheads had peaked by that era ...

    I had this same issue when the old Flathead needed replacing in my 40. I even put a poll on here and the votes after over 200 votes were only 3 or 4 different. I even had a freash built 327 with old corvette 2X4 setup on it and I still bought a built Merc Fladhead for it. No regrets!

    After all this yakkin'----Do it the way YOU want it!!----However,is your project gonna' be for putt puttin' around town, OR serious line chasin'???
    When I started my project in 1962, just about everyone was into the SBC, Cads, Olds,etc., those big boys weigh in at 600+ lbs.
    I wanted to be a little different--I chose to run a 260 cid SBF, not only for the less weight, but the availability of parts compared to finding scarce Flattie parts.
    Now, if you want to run cross country, consider a minor breakdown out in nowhere,
    a modern type engine parts can be had at almost any auto parts or salvage yard.
    Just try & find distributor parts for a flat head out in the "Boonies", or a water pump.
    I'm with KRACKER--OLD SOUL--WIBBLE-- & STEVE,---Ford in a Ford!!

    i'm going to stay out of this because i would say something like after the overheads came out no one that could afford one( overhead) built a flattie---default olds--- any ohv ford or sbc would be revisionist history ( not of the era)---rocket power baby---but i will just stay out of it...

    OK, a little clarification is in order. First,Thanks to everyone who gave a thoughtful well intentioned response.That is what i asked for.But i can't understand why someone would jump to the conclusion that i am trying to build the car to please others just because i am asking for other points of view.Jeez guys,i know it's mine and i will build it the way I want (i promise) i'm just trying to kick around some ideas,really! OK i feel alot better now. Also ,i should clarify that the olds motor is not in the 32 and never has been. It's in the orig 49 olds sedan,sorry for the confusion. Also,i have alot of respect for the small block chevy but won't put one in this car.Ive pretty much limited my choices to the motors i listed so no y blocks,hemis,sbf's etc. Thanks again,Bob

  22. Ok a little story, did this in 67 and sold it in 74 for 500 bucks and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of the mistake I made, it was full fendered although this picture was taken after I stole my dads 55 running gear out of his station wagon to put behind the flattie............ keep it flat you won't regret it..............pic taken in 70 holy shit thats &*^% years ago

    It was that "its still in the car" that threw everyone, me included. You didn't actually say WHICH car, we just assumed...:D
