Man I can't help but feel it on Memorial Day. I'm a vet so I served my time. But some gave ALL, I only gave up 4 years. This country is going to shit and all our old car fun with it but there are (were) guys who were diggin cars and never got to. I'm 60+ so yeah, it was Vietnam, but the place don't matter. Our politicians use up young guys for bullshit reasons and in the end it didn't even matter. For all the troops in the ground ( and I knew some of them), I'm sorry. But I remember and it really hurts on Memorial Day.

  2. Thank You to all who served in the Armed Forces and the ones serving now. I served from 1970 to 1974 USCG.

    Thanks!!!!

As an Army vet ( 1969-1971) what bothers me is that people are forgetting the real meaning or purpose of Memorial Day. To most its a day to go to the beach, have a BBQ, or head out to a big box store to the Memorial Day sale. Only a handful respect the real meaning of the day. So fly your flag high and spend some time thinking of those who never came home to live out their lives as we are now.

Thanks to ALL who do/have done what they have to so we can each sleep safe at night. My dad served 30+ years, his friends came and went, and it was hard on all of us. My hat's off to all who protect us.

  13. I served in West Berlin 66'-68'. My one uncle was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, My dad served on a Destroyer Escort and luckily for him was transferred off only a couple weeks before it was hit by five Kamikazes but stayed afloat and helped shoot down over 50 enemy planes. 22 lives were lost on the Evans. I lost three friends in Viet Nam. I feel anger and disgust with what is happening in this country. We have all been used. " In Haigs presence Kissinger referred pointedly to military men as dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy". Bob Woodward & Carl Bernstien, The Final Days p.208. God bless our troops and bring them all home.

Good thread, lots of vets and sons of veterans among the HAMB. We owe our freedom to those who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. God bless all those who chose to serve our country.

A salute and a prayer of gratitude to the men and women of our armed services, and especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in service to their country. My dad served in Okinawa in WWII. The only thing he ever said about it was that it was the most horrific experience of his life. He told me he would kill me if I volunteered (1969). I tried anyway but failed the physical twice. I saw a sad statistic this week that we lost more combat vets to suicide than from action in Afghanistan last year. For many vets the wounds never heal and most Americans couldn't care less. These are sad times in our country and in many ways we're unworthy of the sacrifices made.

God Bless all United States service men and women!!

Action speaks louder than words. I had breakfast at the Veterans Hospital yesterday. I like to thank them in person and I do it every time I visit there. I know a lot of people have busy schedules and I guess I'm lucky to have the free time, but guys, if you really want to thank a vet, spend a little time with one.

At the hospital, some of these guys only get to talk to hospital staff and relatives. That's all they usually see. Grab some of your old hotrod magazines and haul 'em up to the local veterans hospital and chat with a few guys. They'll get more out of that than the bumper sticker on your car and you may get a chance at a barn find.

X2,......... "Point of Order" Veterans Day is for those who have served,... Memorial Day is reserved for only those that gave the supreme sacrifice, And them alone. It's actually a little embarrassing to be thanked for your service on Memorial Day, Remembering those personal hero's of mine that never made it back to "the world".

And for what it's worth, I find defining the operations that these fine young people sacrificed there lives for as BS is disrespectful to those we are to honor. IMHO

This is a thread contributed last year....

Take them for a ride in your Hot Rod,.... (Memorial Day)

Just got back from putting flags on veterans graves at the old masonic cemetary. From the civil war to vietnam vets today. The newer cemetary had already been flagged.

Kind of ticked me off not to see flags at the old cemetary.
