Part I: About five years ago I bought this 58 Ford F100. At some point a 302/C6 combo had been installed and the truck changed hands a few times before I bought it. It was a solid truck but it had been put together pretty haphazardly. As I would soon learn........ First thing I did was find a chrome grill and work out the stance situation. I came a cross a chrome 59 grill for short money, bought a pair of mono- leaf springs flipped the axle over the springs. It was looking better but no where near where I wanted the ruck to be. I finally found a 58 chrome grill and with the help of the hamb I found the info I needed to make the truck into a short bed. I also added a Sids drop axle to get rid of the reverse rake. After some cutting, welding and re-enforcing I ended up with this. Last week I sat down and made a list of the all the stuff I needed to do to this truck to bring it up to the of quality of ride that I feel is representative of me and those things I am associated with... my club, my car show(s) and New England Speed & Custom etc...It was a long and expensive list Last year the shop picked up an unmolested 59 F100 California truck with a freshly built and detailed 292 and boxes and boxes of parts. The original plan was to build the truck as a shop truck,. As luck would have it we came across a running driving rust free unmolested 63 F100 for a song. The 59 was put into storage and a few months ago was put up for sale to fund a production project. A few times I thought about buying the truck form the shop but with a new home purchase on the horizon it just didn't seem like it would be in the cards. "Earl" (soon to be lowered) With a perfect rust free 59 sitting in one of our buildings and my ever growing list of upgrades & fixes on my 58 it just seemed ridiculous not to buy the 59. Truthfully I don't think we ever wanted to get rid of the truck either as Josh had been chasing the truck since he was old enough to drive. So a deal was struck and I am now in possession of a our 59. The 58 has been parted out with exception of the hood and chrome grill. The 302 went to a friend of ours customer's mustang project. The C6 was traded for a built C4. I'll soon be placing an order for the C4 to Yblock adapter and a few other performance y-block goodies. I wasn't planning on owning another 57-60 F100 but this deal was simply to good to pass up. More importantly I get to build the truck my way done right, and best yet with good friends.
Just a really clean driver. Sids's 3" drop axle up front, pretty much the same stance I had on my 58. The y-block has already been rebuilt and detailed. I'll be adding a 4 barrel intake from John Mummert. I scored a free set of Sanderson headers as well.
I like the 58's stance. You dont have any pictures of the axle flip do you? I have a 59 with a 57 grill. I want the straight axle to stay up front but its not low enough right now. I have 5" drop leafs in back and 3" in front, kind of worried if I flip the axle I wont clear the oil pan. I hope this turns into a build thread soon.
Look forward to seeing your progress. Love them old trucks!!! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
