In deciding what to do for exhaust I finally settled on using mandrel bends and build my own. I purchased a 4x6 band saw from HF on sale to use in the vertical position. What I needed was a away to ensure the cuts we on the axis so that they would connect properly. What I came up with was a protractor to mark the pipe at the angle I wanted. It is made up of scrap masonite and a protractor I downloaded off of the internet and printed on clear plastic. I used the same radius bend pipe throughout. As the pictures show you line up the pipe with the lines and swing the pointer to the desired angle. I would then mark the pipe and then cut with the band saw. I included a couple of shots of the finished product. Total cost of the system including mufflers and the saw was about $325
I wasn't able to find anything on the HF site that would translate to a '4 x 6 band saw' and I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean by 'in the vertical position'. Got an item number? How about a pic of the band saw cutting a u-bend? Many thanks, in advance. Cheers -- Gary "A man of genius makes no mistakes. The item number is 93762-9VGA. There is a table that is attached to the right side rollers when the arm is tilted up. I bought it when it was on sale for $159 and with a 15% off coupon. I have used it many times since the exhaust. Knowing the quality of the product when it got me through the exhaust I considered myself at break even on the cost.
Old thread but had to say thanks! I built one and did an outline of my 10th grade boys protractor after getting it square. I then covered my markings with clear packing tape. Duct tape and a thin sheet of aluminum and I was ready to go. Not as nice as yours but it worked like a charm!
