Need a little help making sure Im looking at the right starter for my truck. I called a Antique Auto parts dealer today and didn't get much help.
My truck is a 1952 f1 215 6cylinder its been converted from 6 volt to 12 volt. The starter was missing when I bought the truck so I don't have anything to compare.

Do some research, the later 223 starters may be the same.

A 223 starter will not work, I tried it. It will bolt on, however their is a difference between the 215 and 223 flywheel in terms of their offset and such. I remember that while it did spin the motor, it made some really bad sounds. I also tried swapping the bendix between the starters and that helped, but was still not correct. Basically since the starter on the 215/223 is bolted to the bell housing, you need the correct starter for the bell housing . I believe that the shafts are different lengths, maybe a flathead starter would work? Learned this when swapping a 223 for the stock 215 in a 52 F-3
