Fired up my Lincoln 125 today and wouldn't push wire. Cut the wire and had to pull like hell to get it through the liner. Tried to blow it out but it was plugged. Then I accidentally dropped my tire machine bar on it and smashed it for good.

New liners say they are wire diameter specific. I thought you could run .023 and .030 through the same liner?

Yes and no. You can run .023 and .030 in a .030 liner. But for obvious reasons you can not go the other way. A 125a welder like yours you should get a .030 liner. Just make sure you use the correct tip size for your wire. Buy a set of those Felt lubricating pads for your wire. It helps keep your liner from wearing. Also really helps for smooth feed even when your line is making some tight turns.

I run the same liner for all, just different tips.

You can run a smaller wire in a larger liner, but not the other way around. Back in the day when I had a Lincoln, I ran an 0.030" liner, with 0.023" wire in it, all the time.

My brother has that welder now, about 20-years later, and it is still going strong, with the same configuration (periodically serviced, that is).

Better make sure you can remove the old liner before you purchase the new one.

I owned a weld shop for many years. We ran 045 liners in everything. We used 023, 035, and 045 wire. Just use the correct tips. The felt pad deal is good - it keeps debris from entering the liner and prevents buildup of that debris which usually results in jerky wire movement.

guessing that you are running Gas through your welder you can use the .030 liner as others have mentioned. If no gas bottle the liner is different for flux core wire and not sure if you could use the larger size liner.

One other thing to remember is, to make sure the drive roller size, is correct. It only takes a few seconds to check and solves a lot of problems before they can start.

I squirt a little lube on the felt pad once a month and it seems to work great.
