Yup! if you have anything aluminum in the system (radiator, heads, intake) use a compatible coolant flush! There are a number of good products out there, but please read the instructions carefully. KK
I have read on ford barn guys are using white vinegar with good results, run it for a week and flush it out,it needs to be neutralized with baking soda after woods .
Spick-N-Span is supposed to be good, it was good enough that one of the flushes started adding it to theirs with a notice "with Spick-N-Span" on it to increase interest.
That's how I do it too! Just be careful handling the squirrels. One bite and you'll peak for hours...
Oxalic Acid A.K.A. wood bleach.......I used a small tub of it in my cooling system a couple of years ago with great results. I drained/flushed the system, filled with water/wood bleach and drove it around that way for ten days. Drained/flushed/refilled again and no more cooling problems. If you have a hard time finding it try the local/independent hardware stores, I had no luck with Lowes/Home Cheapo type places.
+1 I believe it was an ingredient in the coolant flush of days gone by. I think GM still uses it in their in-house coolant flush.
