differences between 39 ford coupe standard vs. delux

Can a 39 ford coupe delux be changed to a standard by changing the hood and grill or are the fenders different also?

 

The hoods are different. And I think the fenders are to. The standard has good sides and a good. The delux has a one piece hood.

The cowl is different on the body and all front sheet metal also.

 

Can the cowl be reworked to fit a standard clip?

 

standard is based on 38 tooling. if you want to match compare the 39 deluxe to the 40 standard.
many manufacturers did this to get 2 years out of tooling

 

It is a lot of work just to make a classic look ugly. Of course I am biased after 47 years of Deluxe ownership.

 

He is right. The 38 Deluxe is the same as the 39 Standard. The 39 Deluxe is the same as the 40 Standard.

 

The running boards are different too. Like 47chevycoupe says, all front sheetmetal plus the radiator and generator are different. The fan mounts on the generator on the Standard and the radiator is taller.

 

The standard is about 4" narrower at the cowl, standard and deluxe clips won't interchange. Tried to change a std to dlx about 20 years ago.

Somewhat true... The 39 Deluxe grille is not "exactly" like the 40 Standard grille. There is a "slight" difference.

 

I think i just fell in love with my delux!
