Projects 53 Business Coupe Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 53chevtrev, Nov 26, 2011.

  1. Nailed the headlights/fenders!
Is the grille going to be in the stock position or moved back into the opening a bit....?
Seen one or two with recessed grillles for a "deeper look".

    cheers Maiki

Hey everyone. Thanks for the support and wanting to see more progress on the 53. I would love to be giving you more updates but unfortunetaly it might be a while before I get anymore major work done on the car. I have two big house reno's to do (kitchen, new custom deck) and I am getting married in august which is gonna take up most of my free time. I hope to get some hours in the garage when I have nothing else going on but its gonna be few and far between until the end of august. I apologize for leaving everyone hanging but priorities change sometimes for a bit. As soon as I get these things done I will be full out on the car as I want to drive this thing so badly.

Thanks again for the huge support and all the praise!

Hey guys. Sorry for the radio silence. Been a busy couple of months and have one week till I get married. Super excited! Kitchen reno is finished and super happy with how our new kitchen and new laminate floors look. I haven't gone the whole time without touching the car and have had a few hours to work on the chevy. I got my vent windows chopped, all the is left is to weld up where the pivot point has changed and started working on getting my dash welded up. Hope everyone is enjoying their summers!

I know its not hamb material but here is our kitchen before and after.

Got some work done on the 53 this weekend. Im married and couldn't be happier! Time to get moving on this build. Got the dash welded and worked on smoothing it as best I could.

Got my steering column mounted to the new firewall and the linkage back hooked up. Nice to be able to turn the car again! Next on the list is building a new column drop mount.

Also here is a picture of me and my groomsmen arriving at the beach for the ceremony. Got to cruise the 56 coupe deville I hooked up for my wifes uncle and he has since given it to her as a wedding present. Thing is a beaut, bought it off the original owners.

Fabbed up some new column drop mounts that finish flush in the bottom of the impala dash board. Center has been left open for the shifter linkage that is yet to be installed. Need to fill the hole where the old column sat under the speedometer. Gonna get my transmission tunnel and floor all finished up next.

Man just looked thru this entire build thread, I love the craftsmanship and the car is just killer! I'm a metal fabricator for a living and I'm very impressed! Makes me want to bag my 56 merc..... If I only had the money.

Congrats on getting married! I'm not far off from taking that same plunge.

    Keep the updates coming!!!!

Thanks so much dude! If you slowly collect the parts and do the airbags yourself it can be sorta affordable.
