Phoenix - Itty bitty grinding work needed

I've got two output shafts. Hardened of course.

One has a groove for a snap-ring; the other shaft needs that same groove cut into it.

My usual go-to for precise work in Tempe is going to cut some of the other related parts. But for the mainshafts, he said he didn't want the work / to charge me accordingly for the work. It's grinding rather than machining since it's in an already-splined area.

Anyone deal with Paradigm or Economy? Or have a good reference? E valley would be nice.

Buy a Dremel and use a small cut-off wheel.

If I had a lathe, a way to solidly mount the dremel to ease it in there and better measuring devices, I would.

My eye is starting to twitch as I prevent myself from going and purchasing some of those items.

Gee Chip you sure have a high opinion of my skills !!! Now I need to see a head shrinker .:)

  7. How hard is the shaft? There are some good inserts that may permit it to be done on a CNC lathe, but be prepared for a $100/hour set up charge and other costs.

If the shaft has centers in both ends, it can be ground on a old Browne & Sharp between-centers grinder. Again, there is a cost associated with a special grind on the wheel to a narrow width.

It was harder than woodpecker lips. But I managed to do it on a 12x 36 import manual lathe with plain old brazed carbide tools SLOOOOOWLY !
