I have a 1953 ford that I am restoring. I need to lower the front. Drop spindles is not an option. Instead of cutting coils, I heard of a company that makes shorter heavier coils that will give the same ride as stock. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?
Coil Spring Specialties in Kansas, 785-437-2025...I've used them many times, and turned several of my friends onto them...
Some people have used the cc850 but it is much stiffer than the stock spring. I would look at the following, cutting a 5596 Moog It's a little shorter and softer than stock but if you cut it 2.5 inches (which stiffens it) it will have the same drop as the CC850 but a much better ride.
1990 Ford Areostar coils fit right in and drop the front 2 1/2" for around $70 at Napa Autozone etc, I used them on my last 2 '51s Jim
yeah, i was gonna say that too, although i don't believe they will fit his '53... anyone on here done it yet?
The cc850's are the Aerostar springs. The problem is they are about 50 pct stiffer than stock. The stock springs are closer to 400.
I put aerostars in my 52 ford. Dropped it 2 1/2" and rides great Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Ditto on a '53 with the Aerostars... After it settles, you end up between 2-2.5" and a lot nicer ride than cutting anything.
